I have a question/suggestion ~ Treatment Options for prostate cancer?

I was wondering if there was any way to start a "permanent" post that would stay at the top of the page that would list all the treatment options available for prostate cancer.  When my husband was first diagnosed there were three: Surgery - open or robotic Brachytherapy External Beam Radiation Since that time several other options have become viable, including: HIFU Proton Chryotherapy Hormone Therapy Is there a way to list just the treatment names so that people can individually research each option.  I know when I first started this process of investigation I didn't know the names of all the treatments (or even that there were more than the original three) and I think it would be most helpful.  The thread need not be open for discussion - in fact it could be locked after the initial post listing the treatment options; if new options became viable maybe a moderator could edit it and relock it to keep it current. I think that would be an excellent idea. Having just recently gone through this decision making process with my husband, I would have loved having one place I could find all the options to research. It was only by chance that we learned about HIFU, and that was after already deciding on brachytherapy. As it worked out, HIFU turned out not to be an option for him right now, but it would have been helpful to at least know of all the possible treatment options up front.

   Excellent idea!!!  Julie, Perfect timing....  I just posted a note letting members know I would be working on updating the locked thread! and any help from members is appreciated!!  I then clicked on this thread!!! again ~ perfect timing! I will get on this specific request in the next day or 2... it will be placed in the locked thread at the top. All and any help is appreciated!!!  Like Tony updating the Videos thread.  I plan to back away a little from individual postings until all updates are complete... so know we're here and available to anyone who needs or wants special attention to something. Just let us know. Hi Bluebird,

Since you are asking, it would be really help to put an alphabetical list of the abbreviations that we use frequently. Even today, after nine months here, I had to search to find out what AUS is.

Dear bluebird... Perhaps we put our heads together (your wisdom and experience with my computer brain) regarding these ideas and post an organization proposal such that we could get some more feedback from the forum?  I have a couple of ideas too.

This is a great suggestion. I'll do my part and keep the Videos post current. I can't imagine that we could do any wrong with a commitment to help our friends find important info that we already sought.

I work for a hospital in RI for the Surgical Research department and we have a new Phase I trial for prostate cancer patients unlike any.  The link to the site is below as it is goverment funded but not yet FDA approved, which is why it is still a clinical trial.  The procedure is somwhat simple:

We alter the patients t cells to recognize cancer as a virus and then to attack that virus as if it were harmful.  We all know cancer is harmful but for some reason our body is fooled by it and doesnt attack until its too late.  So by retraining the tcells we can create a "designer tcell" to attack the cancer.  Again it is in the trial phases but we have really good hopes for this type of treatment.  Please take a look at the trial and feel free to call me if you want more information.

Wow - I thought it was a good idea when I posted it and I'm glad so many of you agree.  Diagnosis can be overwhelming and I didn't know where to start researching options.  Thanks to this forum I became educated and as we all know, Knowledge is POWER.

Given the new breakthroughs in research I'm so glad this suggestion is going to come to fruition.

Has anyone tried treatment called immunotherapy? There is a treatment called Provenge for metastatic prostate cancer for men who are not having any symptoms. Just want to know if anyone has tried this and what are the side effects, how it is working? I keep reading about it at www.prostate.net, and my husband may be starting it.
