We got the catheter out at 7 days and spoke to the dr about getting some ed drugs and he acted like it was too soon.  He said he would give us some if we wanted some, but wait just to get healed up a bit more.  How soon have your docs advised to start the awakening of the sleeping giant?

We started Cialis shortly after catheter was out. But didn't really lead to an erection. May have helped in healing the nerves.

I am not sure there is much danger in starting soon after catheter out? If for blood flow, even if no actual erection.

For us, even starting with Cialis right after catheter out, and then pump at about three months, then injections about five months, it was still six or seven months for us before really started to feel it was really getting back to normal as far as erections go. But I would say there was rapid improvement at about seven months. In the last month or so, has been a complete turn around.

But I do think it is important to stimulate it often. Whether through drugs that keep the blood up, or pump, or just plain fooling around even if not intercourse.

I guess I would ask your doctor why his hesitant about the viagra type drugs? There might be some medical reason.

I began Viagra 25 mg nightly the night the catheter was out.  The thing about it is you take it for blood flow and rehab this early, not for sexual function.  Viagra will not produce erections without stimulation, but will help with repair rehab during this critical period of healing from catheter removal to about 6 to 9 months post-op.  So if you do take it early, that doesn't mean you will or can get erections, but it will aid your recovery of function.  That's the way it was explained by my Urologist.  I am able to get my GP and the Urologist to get me free Viagra samples, plus have ordered from alldaychemist.com to keep the cost down of these expensive pills.

Seconding what James said.  My urologists prescribed 20mg Levitra, split the pill in half and take it every other day for rehab purposes (improving blood flow) immediately upon catheter removal.  Also advised I could take the whole pill if I wanted to try to have an erection.  Fortunately for me I've got erections without the aid of the Levitra.  However, I'm still going to take the Levitra as part of my rehab.  Also based on recommendations in this forum I've also ordered a supply from alldaychemist.   Insurance wouldn't cover ED drugs and at $15 a pill it would get sort of expensive.

I was given 25 mg viagra to take for rehab 28 days post op when my cath came out. I can not remember now when the Dr. said to use the 100mg and try for a full erection. I think it was a few weeks later? Just listen to you Dr and give your body time to heal.
