I wouldn't worry about
aplogizing to the nurse, It's she who should be aplogizing to you. At no time should anyone have to jerk or yank a catheter to remove it. If the water balloon is properly deflated it should in most case slide out on its own, and in the rest should only required slight pulling, never jerking or yanking. Maybe this is a reason to follow up with your doc, so he can maybe have an opportunity to retrain his staff on the proper method of deflating and removing a catheter. If the water is properly removed from the ballon, there should be no resistance. If the water isn't all removed, then it will have to be yanked or jerked, which sounds like what happened to both of you guys.
Your irritation is from that yanking and tearing, along with normal swelling and irritation from the cather being in for a period of time. All of this is just my opinion, of course....lol
