         Home, still, walking about 3 miles a day in the neighborhood. Man this leg bag fills quick, my biggest problem; the incision holes, the one where the Q-Mix was inserted stings every time I move, looks okay though. Only use Wilson to sleep at night. Can only sleep on one side, the pulling on the Cather hurts like the dickens. Speaking of Mr. Happy and the Boys, swelling gradually going down, Mr. Happy still bruised looking. Need to tell all of you sometime about while at St Vincent ’s. I got to be the Demo Man for putting on a leg bag for 15 Student Nurses, all Third year Nursing students, all gracious southern women, sigh, What a time to be recovering from Major Prostate Surgery, But I did it for the Team. It was tough duty, but someone had to do it. How long on soft foods?    Movements pretty regular and soft, taking Stool softeners. Will update more later

Greetings, Fatcat.  Glad you are doing well.  I found that while I had Mr. Hang with me I slept very poorly.  I would rest awhile in bed on my right side and then move out to the sofa and rest awhile on my left side.  I never did sleep very well.  The first night it was out I slept like a baby.  I am now 5 weeks post surgery and am finding my incision (I had the open variety) and particularly where the 2 drains were is making itself known more now than at any time before.   I wouldn't say it hurts it's just making me aware of them being there. 

Fatcat, your student nurse story reminded me of when I went in to get my staples removed and the catheter removed.  The nurse was doing this and she pulled out about a 2' by 2' pad and said this will be your modesty panel.  I looked at her and said "Mam whatever modesty I ever had is long since gone, just do what you need to do."  I don't know how I would have done with 15 student nurses however.  I might have remembered way back almost 35 years ago to the last time I was with a student nurse.  I ended up marrying her and we have been together 35 years in just a couple more months.  She graduated from nursing school one weekend and we got married the next weekend.  Best move I ever made.  David

Hang in there guy, it sucks but it will be a even greater day when it comes out. I had a tube in back draining a kidney for a month before the catherter. Both sucked.
Still, looking back, it was worth the effort.

Hi fatcat,

Hey... it sounds like you're doing well.  3 miles a day?  That's great!  You'll get rid of that extra equipment soon and feel like a new man.

On the soft foods... I would say to ask your doctor or the nurse.  I think if you're body is pushing food through the system without a lot of pain or discomfort, you should be okay to return to normal eating habits.

Hang in there fatcat.  I had a catheter in for 22 days, 2 hours and 30 minutes....not that I counted or anything...lol.

Thing leaked constantly the entire 22 days.  Did not have pain but it was a royal nuisance.

In my case, I rejoiced when it was removed, then 4 days later came down with orchitis (infected left testicle due to prolonged catheter usage) AND a left groin hernia......ouch!!

Had to wait 5 weeks before surgeons would do the hernia surgery, but man oh man, was I excited to get that second surgery behind me.

I am feeling very good now...down to 1 pad a day....taking Viagra 3 days a week and began pump therapy less than 3 weeks ago.  Hope to be continent later this month and also hope to begin trying bimix within the next month or so as well.

Still somewhat in shock that I am a cancer patient, but thankful to God, my doctors, family and friends for giving me the strength to get through this period of my life.  I am a stronger person for having this to deal with....and found out how wonderful my wife, family and friends really are when the chips are down.
