Although it still takes a good bit of mental focus, my sex drive has returned. I think a lot of it had to do with feeling better and deliberately thinking erotic thoughts even though in the beginning it was getting me no where. But then one day, I had a brief moment of being horney which was wonderful.
I can't help but think you have to make the mental tie to sex drive to get full benefit of the ED pills. Maybe we lean on ED treatments without pushing the erotic button. Maybe its like a person that is trying to walk again after an ijury and traing the mind to reconnect.

Just some thoughts.

    Hello! can anyone tell me why my sex drive has completly shut down? I have DDD, and have been on Percocet #10 325 x2, and I always had a strong sex drive while on it. However mr Dr upped, changed my meds for pain control in my lower back, I continue to take the Percocet's, and now Oxycontin 30mg for 12hr and 20mg for the other 12hrs. When I come off the pain meds after my surgery will I get my sex drive back?

If you are a red blooded male and they did not remove your testacles while they were in the neighborhood, you in all liklihood will still like to look at the ladies. I do.

We're somewhat off topic, but since it's not always clear what is affecting what...

Are you on any other meds? I've found that pretty much any of the statins for lowering cholesterol, for example lipitor, any of these will knock out the libido. Tried four or five I think. This is listed as a side effect, though they claim that around 90% of the time it doesn't happen. Guess I'm in the lucky 10%.

Good Evening Bear, I do take Crestor, but have never had this problem until the recent change to my pain meds. It only came on, when the Oxycontin was added to the mix. I have also posted the same question on the Chronic Pain Forum where I spend most of my time. I wasn't sure where else to go and ask this, but I did a quick search, and followed the link to this forum. Sorry, if the question has been posed in the wrong place. Again, Thanks for the replies!

Not sure why you need so many pain meds for your back, even the most chronic back pain has more long lasting pain relief available in the form of injections that eliminate the need and side effects of Percocet and Oxycontin

Statins use has a mixed blessing, on one hand the clearing of the plaque or preventing of its buildup helps with ED, on the other I have read and suspect in myself as well that it lowers ones sex drive

Not taking a statin very well may increase sex drive, but having a heart attack or stroke may be a real sex drive killer

   Hello Mr Gimpy! I'm not new to back problems, and have been suffering with DDD for several yrs now. Have had 5 Epidurals, and a no go with them. Been on Percocet for  6yrs, been through PT. and now I'm looking at surgery for it, as Im getting worse. I had a HA in 2002, and trust me nothing has been wrong with my sex drive, until I got on the OXY.

Eagle, that is good news for you ,glad to hear that. I was under the impression that the ED drugs have nothing to do with one's sex drive or interest, so that would make sense. There is that mental bridge that has to be connected along the way.

If the combination of the two analgesics are making you drowsy, they likewise will make other parts of you drowsy too....that's a lot of pain medication you are taking. Howver, pain killers, used in moderation, will ehance libido but will not help with performance; in fact they may make you limp even if your brain is saying go.

Both of those pain meds contribute greatly to Constipation, that may limit desire, did you try a stool softener while taking them ?

Mr! Gimpy...Like I said I have been on Percocet for the last  6yrs.......I take a ton of Metamucil.

I have post-surgery ED but it hasn't affected my sex drive any. Which can be frustrating :-)

Screaming Eagle,

Oxy helped with my pain for a short period of time after surgery but made me nauseated so I quit taking it. There is no way it could have helped with my libido especially after surgery. I think the answer to your question wont be known until your surgery and your off the pain meds. Wish you the best with both as pain is bad enough without losing your sex drive.
