For those of you who have been following my husband's Brachytherapy journey, I have a somewhat disturbing update. 

Just when the Oncologist finally quelled my nerves about the PSA bounce, his Urologist has set my stomach in knots.  In December my husband had blood in his urine, I took him to the clinic to see if he had a urinary infection - they dipped and said no, and we don't want to start you on antibiotics because there is no infection - if it continues comes back, if not I don't think there's anything to worry about.

He mentioned it to his Urologist who has now scheduled him for a cystoscopy - they're scoping to check for a tumour in/on his bladder.  Please, if you could, think of me between now and April 29th, the date of his scope.  Needless to say I'm an emotional wreck but he seems to be holding up OK.  This has been quite a battle for both of us.  For your thoughts and support I am truly grateful.

Hi Julie,
Hopefully this is just a minor setback. The waiting can get to be the worst part of cancer. Many of us have had that time to wait, and I for one had to turn to my Faith to get through it. Brachytherapy is a surgical procedure and it can be a slow heal. Hopefully your husband is taking it easy and giving himself a chance to heal. Stay positive, and believe that all thing will work them selves out. You have my promise of prayer for the both of you. Gather some of his strength for yourself. I believe you guys are still on the right path of healing. God Bless you, and be well.

Putting a bunch of Vitamin C through the ol' system might be a pretty good idea at this juncture. Besides, it makes the pee pretty.

Julie,

You guys have generously shared your journey with us, which is greatly appreciated. Though there are different paths to get rid of this cancer we all hope for the same results. I understand your fears and the waiting time is difficult to deal with. What WE can do at this point is let you know we're here for you and will support you both - you've done the same for us. Please stay close and let us know how you're doing.

Hi Julie,

We had a similar scare last summer with my daughter.  The problem turned out to be something unrelated to a cancer that she had overcome previously.  It was something minor and fixable, but scary all the same.  So, I'm hoping for the same minor problem for you and hubby.

I'm sorry about the wait for you two until the procedure.  You'll have friends waiting here with you :-)

Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and hubby.

My heartfelt thanks to all of you for your neverending support.  It never ceases to amaze me how, in our busy lives, this groups makes time to support each other.  I've managed to breathe again now and knowing the appointment is booked is the first step to the next answers.

With respect to kidney stones, the doctor said there would be no deny kidney stones if you had them.

Merkelman - a thousand thanks, just knowing that someone else has been down this path with favourable results is so encouraging and I will certainly hold on to that.

Thank you to all of you for taking time to offer your support - I will keep you posted as we trek down this path.

JustJulie - you are indeed one of our treasured veterans here - and one who has been through so much. Since joining in August of '06, my husband and I have talked of you (and your journey) often.

The waiting period is going to be a tough one, of course, but it surely is an unrelated condition - believe that - and one that will be easily fixed.

"Believe" is such a powerful word.  In fact I found it so powerful that when walking through my local card store I found what used to be the simple word Believe in a beautiful metal form - I bought it right then and there and hung it over my bedroom door - it is the first thing I see each morning when I rise and I have to trust in its power.

As a fellow brachy patient who recently got hit in the stomach with a baseball bat (figuratively), I feel a special kinship with you and your husband. Intellectually you know that there's no sense in making yourself crazy over this at this point, but, we all know that emotions take over if we let them.

We're all pulling for you two in our own ways. Try to be strong.

I am proablly one of the youngest people on here. I know how it feels to be told lots of ups and lots of downs. I will be praying for you and your famiy. God wont give you more than you can handle. Keep your head high. Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Take one day at a time. KEEP POSITIVE!!!

When you had your cystoscopy did your Urologist perform the procedure and were results immediately available?  I'm wondering if we will once again be forced to play the waiting game for results.

Hi JustJulie: Sometimes the hardest part is the waiting. It's too bad you guys have to wait so long. Try to be positive but i know that's hard. My prayers are with you and yours and I will say an extra prayer the day of his surgery. Feel all of the arms of this group surrounding you and hopefully it will bring you some comfort and peace. You guys are awesome - thanks for your words of comfort - I think I need them more than my husband needs my support.  He's come to conclusion that I've dealt with this once before, I know the procedure and the waiting game - I've dealt with it once, I'm not so scared anymore ... I wish I could be that strong - you guys are the ones keeping my afloat these days and I'm truly grateful.

Hang in there Julie;

For me, this darn disease is a day-by-day journey. It's taught me to not be too anxious about weeks or months down the road. Just concentrate on today and be thankful you have this exact moment in time. We all want to control our tomorrows but just when we think we have everything covered, LIFE GETS IN THE WAY. Since my diagnosis and my surgery, I'm thankful for each new day and I only concentrate on the next PSA test or the next urologist visit. That's it! It's the only way cancer patients can exist. One day at a time.

I'll be thinking about you and keeping you in my prayers between now and April 29th.
