Hi Gary,

Just saw your post where you fainted after having the biopsy done
and how it frightened your wife, which I understand. May I ask if your wife was in the room when this happened? Did they go out and tell her that you had fainted and ask her to come back to the room or did she find out when you were dressed and came out to leave? This happened to my husband also, but he wasn't lying down, he was up trying to clean himself up and had bent down to pick up some soiled tissues and when he stood back up he fell forwards and passed out on the floor. My husband was taking several different medications at the time and on two of them was a warning that changing positions quickly could cause fainting. He was very surprised when this happened because he had never fainted before. I didn't find out until the nurse walked him back to the waiting room and told me.

I really liked the doctor who did my biopsy. He was a very skilled surgeon, but he only performed open protsatetomies (sp!) so I used a robotics guy for that. My procedure included some deadening agent on the end of the probe - but no shots or lidocane that I am aware of, and I was wide awake. He did a count every time he pulled the trigger and I really preferred that method. (So it was "1, 2, 3" bang.) I agree with the comment about having a baseball bat up your bum, which was uncomfortable, but the sticks were so fast that I really cannot say they hurt - they were uncomfortable.

Then, because I have a tendency to swell a lot, I had a rough week or so, with bleeding off & on for 10 days or so. But - it certainly was not the worst thing that has ever happened to me.

Mine was done in the Drs office with the nurse present. There was no pain killer and the Dr explained what would happen. I wouldn't call it painful but uncomfortable and the sound of the procedure was unexpected. Had a little bleeding and pain for several weeks after the procedure. The Uro that did mine was not the same Dr that did the Robotic surgery.

I was prepared for the worst, but it really was only a discomfort. The lidocaine first, a little prick on each side just like he said, and then about a 5/10 minute wait before he began. The gun wasn't as loud or as powerful as I expected, and I barely felt the samples being taken. He was finished before I got over the relief that it wasn't going to be a bad experience.

Please don't hesitate as I did before going for this test, as it really is only a discomfort rather than any real pain. Best of luck to you all.
