After a week of extensive testing, we found out that my husband has advanced colon cancer as a secondary cancer. It has already spread to the liver (quite extensively) and lungs whereas his CT-scan at the end of January was completely clean. He started chemo today.

It's been a very intense week. At times we thought he was not going to make it much longer, but changes in pain killers (from morphine to something else with Ritalin) made a major difference. Of course, the treatment is still a long shot but at least we know what exactly it is and how to treat it. So we started chemo and hope and pray for the best.

The doctors reason that one cancer doesn't influence another cancer, but I am not convinced of that. I think that chemo on an already weakened body is worse, in particular because the mets on the liver are the main problem. I've seen too much of what cancer can do to believe in a 'magical cure'. Than again, my husband did a pretty amazing thing with his advanced prostate cancer. Up until yesterday, the oncologists warned us that the question is whether to even start chemo. Fortunately, they found out the origin which made them slightly more positive and confident on how to treat my husband. Dutchy.

Hi dutchy,

I'm so sorry to read about your husbands 2nd cancer, especially after doing so well with his PC. Don't give up hope. I'm sure that you are in many peoples prayers.

I'm hoping that there will be bright light for you on the end of this dark tunnel.

Dutchy,

How are you and your husband doing? Is he receiving chemo yet? Just wanted to let you know that I have be thinking about you both and praying for your continued strength.

Please do not give up hope, that is one thing that we can have until our last breath on this wonderful earth. I teach that where there is hope there is life. I know the road ahead is going to be difficult and seemingly impossible, however I encourage you to find strength in the people here that love and care for you. We can try to share your burden. We are all fighters, but when you get weak please share your feelings. We all care.

This is really a low blow for you and I am so sorry to hear of it.  It is beyond me why this misery is inflicted on so many fine people.  I wish the best for you and truly wish that I had the answer, but I do not.  Please keep us informed and stay with us.

How very sorry I am for all your husband is going through. There's no understanding this terrible disease and the pain it brings.
Please know we're here for you both, Dutchy. We want to help however we can.
