confused   Has anyone had this scan done after RP to determine if radiation treament is still a option?  This is the first time I have heard of this scan and would like some input before Bob's appointment on Thursday with the oncologist.  Thanks so much.

I had the prostascint scan done prior to starting any treatment.  It is primarily done to determine lymph node involvement.  My doctor said it is definitive for cancer in the lymph nodes.  Luckily mine showed my lymph nodes to be clear.

Thank you for the information and input, it is very helpful and will ask about the scan when we go to the hospital on Thursday.  I had never heard of that scan before so we are not sure if it is available in Oregon or not. We will find out where we can get one done if one is not available in Oregon.

There was only one place in Lake Charles, LA that does them. I went in on Thursday and had an injection and then went back on Monday for my scan.  They actually took some blood on the second trip and then put it back into me. The remainder is similar to a CT but takes a lot longer.

My husband had the scan done last month to see if he should have radiation treatment. His PSA had been slowly rising since his surgery in 2001. You first have to have an injection and then they do the scan 4 days later. It took 3 hours for my husbands scan. It also shows if there is possible metastic involvement. On my husbands it did show minor activity in the prostrate bed which is what we suspected but everything else was clear. So he will be starting radiation next month. It was a relief to know it hadn't gone anyplace else. For us it comfirmed the fact that he indeed does need to have radiation treatment. Good luck and we felt it was a valuable test for him to have had done.

Thanks for the reply, and I agree that just getting some kind of confirmation that the cancer has not spread anywhere else would put our minds at rest.  We are learning a great deal of patience through this whole process, nothing happens fast.  We just want to know where we are headed.  Glad to hear the scan helped put your mind at ease.  Good luck and thanks again for your input.
