thanks Tim I found that to be a good article. I do think it is important for fighters and caregivers to get their emotions out and dealt with if possible, however I think it is also important that we fighters do not drown in those same emotions. That is one of the beauties of this forum, we are allowed to share feelings that might not otherwise be shared. I have learned that behind the tough facade is concerned individual.

Interesting article, indeed. Personally, I find an irreverence works well as a coping mechanism...which is why I got my radiation tattoo. I also spent quite a while checking out the pithy anti-cancer tee-shirts on cafepress.com , but I was disappointed that I couldn't find a really good one for PCa. There was one about prostate cancer patients having a DRY sense of humour, but I figured that was too much info. Personally...my ideal choice of two-word statement may not be in the best of taste, but gets the message across.

I see us as doing battle daily, and I have no problem with an aggressive attitude towards an aggressive ailment. But God bless those that let us lower our guard from time-to-time, too.

I have no choice but to choose to be positive.... :-) .

But it's true. By staying positive my family carry's on well. Thanks for this article. Being with a group of people who have walked a mile in these shoes, I know I am not alone when I say Stay Positive. This article gives a clear understanding of how it helps. This burdon, does not have to be undertaken alone, though, either. IMHO, being positive for the family does not do it alone. When we are positive for ourselves, it allows us to talk about our illness and be frank, without sounding negative or depressed. "I am doing well thank you, now what would you like to know?"...I don't mind being open AND positive...

I agree, Tony, and also that passing the word along helps to embed the advice we are given to help ourselves. I will confess, though, to having gone through a stage where I felt that the toughest part of the disease was reassuring everybody that it was no big deal.
