Today is round two for David, So I wish him peace today and prayers and blessings too.  He wrote in his blog before about things I share with him.  For example, in the grand scheme of things when guys like David, Walt, Les and too many more here, have real tribulations going on and I have a sad birthday, I have to remember it's not about me.  The game plan I subscribe to is found in my Faith. 

Good Luck today, David.  I know the Lord is with you.

It most certainly is about you. It's about all of us and each of us has the absolute right to feel down, depressed or whatever on any day of the year. I'm sorry it happened to you on your birthday.

Hell, I get depressed on Thursdays, April days, holidays (most holidays, in fact), sunny days - I don't discriminate.

You're fortunate in having something to which to turn when you feel that way, but you have every right to feel that way and to let us know about it.

And, of course, writing to someone who is in trouble, or down, has a very cathartic effect on the writer - helps him forget his problems for a little while. (Selfish, eh?)

We all have the right to feel down, my goodness we have cancer. the hope is we find a reason to get up as well. When my day goes sour, I think of all my friends here at hw and those battling issues in life. My life is good, maybe not what I would have chosen, but hey I got it, so I try hard to make the best of it. Do I get down?????? HECK YES.
We love you Tony, and I will personally say a prayer for David.

Just checking in:

White blood counts were up, above the levels before my first treatments.
All other markers back to normal levels
No Nulasta required!!

PSA was 53.4, up but only 1 point!
Not expecting any real reaction until at least 3rd or 4th treatment.

I feel fine tonight, much better than first treatment (not that it was hard on me)
The doc and his PA said I looked REALLY good!!

That's all for tonight, hoping the Dex doesn't keep me up tonight!

Looks like you're tolerating things well...you know we'll be rooting for you every step of the way!
I'm really glad you guys on chemo are helping us to better understand what is involved, how your doing with treatment and the effect on your lives.
I so much appreciate that.

Hi Tony,

I know I am speaking for most of us here who say, "Yes this forum is about every one of us..." and yet, the forum is also very much about David, Walt, Les, Tony, and others who show their courage and who are fearless to share their utmost challenges with us.  We watch your progress closely.  We cry when you cry.  We laugh when you laugh.  In the end, we share our humanity and that is a very good thing.  We learn so much from each other!

David, I'm so glad you are having some positive news.  God bless you.

Barry - however.... "while you sleep, David is awake"
Last night all the steroids kept me awake again, just like after the first treatment.

I awoke at 1:30am after 2.5 hours of sleep and did not fall back asleep until 4:30
Not wanting to wake my wife, I watched a few shows on my iPod and was able to get a few more hours of sleep
this morning.

Work was much better this week, I was able to concentrate much better that after the first treatment and got a lot accomplished today.

The deep heartburn started again around noon, took some Zantac (thanks again for the tip Walt!) and things great this evening.

Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes!!

Hopefully I'll get a good nights sleep and be well rested for golf tomorrow afternoon!!

I do hope you get some sleep so you can really enjoy that golf game!

Curious about the heartburn... I take Omeprazole by prescription and it works great for me!

Hi Tony,

You,my man by all means have every right to feel every feeling you are feeling. Lets not forget you are human, you have advanced prostate cancer and you lost your mother just recently.  Its okay to feel sad, bummed, and also feel like crying at times. The most important thing is let those feelings out and release them so they don't have a hold on you. I would venture to say you are positive 99.9% of the time so a little of the other is fine.

Thank you for updating us on David.  David I hope this round of chemo works to bring the PSA down and I too hope you can get a good night sleep.

Barry - regarding the heartburn...I'm taking Proscar.

BTW - played in my 9 hole golf league yesterday; shot 49 (breaking 50 from the Blue tees is good for me).
Had I not finished with two double boogies it would have been better. I am pleased I hit a number of real good shots!

There are a number of of 'things' going on in my family right now. My brother is St Louis has an infected gall bladder and will have surgery, my brother and sister-in-laws twins came 10 weeks early. The girl is doing fine, the little boy not so well. Please say a pray for little Sean......

I would like to sincerely wish you all the best over this holiday weekend. Enjoy all that this country had to offer because of the freedom and independence we hold so dear (and sometimes take for granted!)

Hi David,
You know I am always on the prayer wagon. Sean, and your brother are in them. My Nephews and Nieces are very close to me. I just had a Nephew in town last weekend and we had a great time. He and I have played frisbee golf many times. Though you sound like you would kick my butt. I am looking forward to a great three day weekend. We have a simple weekend planned. It will be around 115 degrees here and that makes me want to go up in the mountains. Of course when it's 115 here, EVERYBODY has a hot flash. But I may take my dirt bike up a few thousand feet and relax and look down on Vegas! Peace!

I had treatment number three last Monday. So what did I do this week? How about this;
Monday: chemo #3. The steroids kept me up, I got three and a half hours of sleep
Tuesday: I friend called, asked how I was felling and if I wanted to attend the "Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers" concert. Well sure I did!
Wednesday: after five hours of sleep, I played in my golf league and shot my best round of the year, 43 on nine holes!
Thursday: 7:30am conference call and normal day of work etc.
Friday: 1/2 day of work then a Golf Tournament
Saturday: usual disc golf game then a movie with my son (Journey to the Center of the Earth; entertaining but not much else)

So here I am at 9:00pm on Saturday and I am pooped!!

My PSA has not dropped but it has stabilized. We are looking forward to the next test on August 11th!
I am experiencing metallic tongue and trying to combat the effects by avoiding hot liquids (I need a coffee!!) and lemon drops etc.

Peace everyone, I'm off for a good nights sleep!

Thanks for the updates David, you are a great inspiration to many. This forum is an unbelievable source of goodwill and support, even when we do get in little spats. We love you dude, and I am sure there is much more work for you to do on this great earth.

I had a long day at the Oncologist office; chemo treatment and regular monthly visit fell on the dame day.
So blood work, doctor visit, chemo prep, chemo, zometa, and a Lupron shot!

Oh, and did I mention my PSA? Down 25% to 39.98!!!

Now i just have to deal with the Dex high tonight and the fact I won't get any sleep!

Just back from treatment #5.
All went well from a treatment perspective but test results leave a little to be desired.
My PSA was 'stable' at 41.36 - of course our hopes were up, but we fight on!
My INR is still low so they have increased my dosage of Coumadin.
Hopefully the INR reacts finally, I am really tired of the self-injections of Lovenox in my belly!!

Hey David,

Thank you for your great attitude in the face of adversity. I just got off Coumadin and the belly shots do get tiresome. I start chemo this Friday (lung cancer).

Here is an update after today, treatment number 6

PSA: 39.57, down from 41.98
Not a lot, but a baby step in the right direction!

Chemo again is being tolerated very well. I'll likely be up tonight watching the final season of 'The Wire', perhaps
reading a little, likely praying a lot.

My INR (Coumadin marker) is now up to 1.8 and the doc raised my dosage with the hope we'll get it over the required level of 2.0
by next Monday. I sure hope so, I tired of injecting myself in the stomach. I am bruised all the way across my abdomen.

Friday is our forth annual golf tournament, a sold out affair. If all goes according to plan we will have raised $100,000 is three years!!

Life is a so many things; a blessing, a challenge, painful, joyful, peaceful!

Blessing to all of you, whatever that means to you individually.
