First injection therapy today

I had my first injection today by my local Urologist. He started with 5 mg's of caverject. In his words it was a low dosage but my gosh did it work for about 2 1/2 hours. Thank God he did not start any higher. He told me that I would probably experience some throbbing because it had been so long since I had an erection. The throbbing was tough. I have read on this forum were many had experience pain with caverject and switched to trimix or bimix.

I have another appointment Thursday to get the injection amount just right. I am thinking the dosage needs to go down. I am wondering if the throbbing will continue or is this just a side effect of caverject that will not get any better?

Has anyone had a similiar experience and is there a difference in pain or throbbing? If this is what caverject will continue to do then I will be talking to my Urologist Thursday about changing to something else... The results was great except for the throbbing pain. Any advice will be appreciated.

At first I was using Trimix and experienced the same. I found however I could actually fall asleep in that state so "before bed activity" helped the situation.

I did switch to Bimix and it worked wonders. However it was not quite as reliable. Then I still had the Trimix and inadvertantly used it again. And no pain. So now I can use either and both seem to work well.

I have noticed that if I use it multiple days in a row, it seems less effective than if there a 2-3 days between uses. OK, I hope that wasn't TMI!

PGE-1, aka alprostadil, is the ingredient in Caverject that causes aching in about 50% of the men who use it.

The same drug is found, in lesser amounts, in trimix.  More men tolerate trimix than Caverject.

Bimix, which some find not to be as consistent as the first two mentioned, does NOT contain the PGE-1/alprostadil and no one (that I have heard of) has aching from that formula.

I have both trimix and bimix and so far have had similar results with both....but with moderate aching from the trimix.

My experience has been similar to DanmanBob's.  The caverject gave me some really intense aching and throbbing, so I moved to bimix, then to trimix.  I used the same formula of the 2 bimix chemicals, but added 2.5 mcg of Prostaglandin, rather than the more usual 10 or 20 mcg, so I get a little boost from it, without the ache and throbbing from straight caverject.  So far, its working good, with little sensation of anything to tell me it is different from bimix.

I will talk to my Urologist Thursday about the pain and see if we can go another route. Thanks for the info.

I swear by the Bimix. After the 1st injection of Caverject in the office, I knew that I did not want to use Caverject. I insisted that the Doc write an RX for the Bimix. It will be 1 year for me on 7/16 and I use the Bimix 2x per week with no pain, and it has been 100% reliable for me. But, I think that it is important to hit the proper injection site to help with reliability. I am at less than .2 mg of Bimix right now.
