Has anyone had the surgery performed by Dr. Patel at the Global Robotics Institure at Fl Hospital?

Hi everyone I have been reading all the posts since my husband JJ was told he had prostate cancer on Aug 15th. As you all know once you hear that you have cancer it is hard to decide which treatment is best and where to go. My husband is 69 years old in good shape plays tennis 5 days a week no other health problems. His PSA was 4.0 at DX he had a biopsy 14 samples one had cancer gleason score 4+4=8 12% of sample. Stage T1C. His doctor recommended surgery and said that we have one of the best DaVinci robotic Surgeons in the country here in Fl. We also sent his biopsy slides to Methodist hospital in Huston Tx for a second option and it was the same they also recommended the Da Vinci surgery. We went to Orlando Fl and met with Dr. Vipul Patel who has performed over 2300 robotic prostatectomy. The doctor and his team were great and very informative my husband's surgery is scheduled for Oct 30th. Has anyone had the surgery performed by Dr. Patel at the Global Robotics Institure at Fl Hospital? I have been reading about the problems that some of you had after surgery and of course have been reading everything that is available on the internet. Yesterday, we actually watched a video of the entire operation I almost think it is too much information. Your comments and support to others on this forum is very comforting to know that others are out there with the same problems and concerns and are willing to share their experiences both good and bad.

Hi MJ! Welcome to HW! I ran a search on Dr. Vipul Patel and there are a couple of threads regarding him from other HW members. Patel is well known and there have been other HW members who used him. I noticed you are not new to HealingWell, so welcome the PCa forum. You already know the site has great support. Very sorry you had to joing this forum, but it is what it is. We're all focused on staying well I can tell you from my experience, this was the best place to get well. Good luck in October. Between now the treatment date, you can stop in when ever you can and we'll help you get prepared.

On forums such as this, you will find people who have problems of various kinds after surgery -- the ones who have no problems tend not to post here!

If JJ is in good shape, that will help the operation to go more smoothly. Of course many things might go wrong -- but that doesn't mean they will go wrong! The large majority of surgeries are uneventful.

Expect a period of incontinence and ED after treatment -- that is the experience of many in here, although some lucky ones have neither.
