David E Update

I thought the old post documenting my Chemo treatment was getting stale, so I started a new one!

Well today I had my 12th and final (for now) Chemo treatment.
As alway, beforehand I had blood drawn for PSA and other blood markers then we waited and
hour and forty five minutes for the Doctor.

The blood markers we slightly low in most cases (ANC, Red and White cells etc).

The critical news, my PSA came in higher. After dropping from 39 to 29 three weeks ago
it rose back to 37. The irony is right before the doc pulled it up on the computer I told him
I was feeling better than last time.

Oh well, life goes forward. Next step is we meet in three weeks to finish out the trial and take one more
PSA. He is looking to see if I can start DES without waiting for the trial to officially end.

In the mean time we will begin to look at potential clinical trials and other potential off label treatments.

If you're curious, I fine, Mary is fine this is all part of the roller coaster ride that is PCa.

Tomorrow I turn forty six and in a few days I begin year 5 of my battle. There are many skirmishes ahead in the battle!

  Geez, after hearing your story I feel ashamed for being so depressed about my life. My prostate CA was found in August '08 after second biopsy, PSA=2.85, 2/12 cores positive on R side, 5% one core, 25% second core, gleason score of 3+3=6, clinical stage T1c, pathological stage T2a after robotic prostatectomy on 09/11/08. Age 52. First 2 post-op PSA's undectectable. I guess we all have crosses to bear, my daughter graduated from college and moved to Peru to live with her boyfriend, I don't know if I'll ever see her again, my 23 year old learning disabled son still lives at home and works at fast food joints to pay the car note on the car I gave him, drinks and also smokes pot. He's going nowhere. My wife super depressed, taking heavy anti-depressants. If you can get up in the morning and march on I guess I can, you are an inspiration to me..............

David you got friends who show support for you and your taking the time to share with other PCa patients about the journey and your treatments. When you are looking for answers you need to find them and/or comfort in something or someone. By your sign off words I know you already found what you need the most which is full filling beyond general comprehension.

As another guy who is aggressively fighting PCa, I can say to you that DES or estradiol patches are not all that big of a deal to use against PCa.  I feel more like a man on DES, than I ever did on LHRH/ADT3 drugs, I don't notice any real big side effects and feel strong and no hot flashes or sweats and no fatigue either, not even weight gain. Dr. Lee has used Emcyt another drug is this grouping, it has heavier duty side effects but must be very useful or he would not have used such on himself. I think you may see results with it and within weeks/month. I have had such and seen in others such. Even though you probably have to buy DES without insurance, it is almost free....as low as  $120-140/ years worth of 1-mg (daily useage). Patches might cost $80-100 per month, swag guess on that.

I don't know if you know about Bill Aishmans research and journey on various protocols including Chemo treatments, he did alot of ground work for the sake of others he has it posted within www.prostate-help.org   not only for you to look at but anyone that is interested.
