How much walking?

Hello All,

I am 4 days out from catheter removal and note the following: I am dry laying down, including all night when, of course gravity issues are diminished, that's good; I am relatively dry while sitting, eg., watching TV; But when I go on walks around the neighborhood, as much as I try, I still have minor "spurts", though nothing (so far anyhow) major. Query: Should I be walking alot despite spurts? What is your experience?

Teddy,  At 4 days out you are doing great.  Walking will help you with your recovery so keep it up and wear good pads while you continue to heal.  It sounds like you are way ahead of where I was at 4 days.  At about 2 1/2mos I had full control and the pads were gone.  Good luck on your continued recovery.... next step is the Zero club.  Hope to welcome you soon.

Keep walking. You are doing great. I went out walking about a month after surgery and forgot to put on pads. I came back and had looked down and had peed all over myself. You are doing great so keep it up.

As I get further away from my surgery, the thing I still remember that helped me most is taking the time to walk. It helped me recover quickly. I eventually was on a three mile regemin. And even though I have advanced prostate cancer I kept that regemin as I proceeded to the next treatment for me which was radiation. After daily treatments followed by three mile walks, two years later I feel very healthy.

So keep up that pace. It's doing you good things.

Hi Teddy,

Outside of kegels, walking is one of the best exercises you can do to help yourself heal and become continent again. Just don't go overboard.

Teddy, I think that the more active you are the better. After about two months the slurps became less frequent. I went from 4 pads to two to none in about
3 months. Keep positive.

Yep.  Walking helped me immensely.  Since I had surgery in January, and the weather here was miserable, I resigned myself to the treadmill twice a day at a clip of 2 miles each time.  Got to about an 8 minute mile after a few days and burned a ton of calories.  Lost 15lbs., and went from the heavy pad to a liner in about two weeks.  Now I'm pad free since March, glad of it, and get my exercise by working in the yard.  I've got a ton to mow and trim, plus all the flower beds and garden to redo.  So, yes.  Keep walking with what you feel comfortable with and keep on healing.

Greetings, Teddy.  You are going great for 4 days off the catheter.  Yes, walking is great.  It is not only good exercise but helps the healing process as it gets everything moving.  Take it easy, but not too easy!  David
