Freaking out...spread to Liver

I was originally diganosed with a Gleason 9 stage 4 prostate cancer in August 2008 with spread to my lymph nodes and hip bone. For the most part I have been symptom free and feel good. Recently a PET scan showed a 3.4 cm spot on my liver and a biopsy just confirmed that the spot is a metastis of the prostste cancer.

I have been on Lupron every 3 months but clearly that has not slowed the progression.

Now that it is in my liver I am freaking out. I have an appointment with a new oncologist on June 10th but if anyone can help by telling me what I may expect with this spread I would appreciate it. This was my great fear that the cancer would hit a major organ like the liver and shorten my life.

Anyone have anything to share......please.

Sorry to hear of your news. I myself am stage 4 but I have responded well to treatment. I will not advocate any treatment on this site however if you E-mail me I will tell you about something I believe helps me. You can see my stats. My psa as of today is undetectable. I believe it helps me and will talk to you at great lengths. I hope you are on a fat free diet, taking 5000 iu of vitamin d3 a day and drinking 8oz of pomagranit juice each day. I do all the above paying particular attention to carrots and brocolli. Tomatoes are also good but really only if processed such as in ketchup ot salsa. I also take a supplement called Pau D' Arco. It is the inner bark of the tahebo tree that grows in brazil. My onco also has advanced disease and takes it as well. Many people will say its just another false treatment but its cheap it wont hurt you and doesnt interefere with other treatments. You can buy it anywhere but I have a preference to where I purchase it. My doc didnt give me 6 months. Its been 3 years and my scans are clean and my psa is nill. I believe God is healing me but I believe he has shown me the proper tools. Todd

I had chemo as a neo-adjuvant treatment. Everyone is different, but it was not bad at all. After seing my mother-in-law go through two different regiments, mine was nothing like it. I understand that chemo for PCa is a lot milder than many other types of cancer.

best of luck to to you...I think some sort of chemo will be used to slay the cancer. What is the pathology report, i.e.
what kind of prostate cancer do you have? There are at least 4 different types. If you have small cell,
expect chemo using etoposide/cisplatin.
