Crotch (perineum) ache five weeks later ....

Greetings all.  Several days after daVinci worked it's prostate magic on me my scrotum turned blue and blew up in protest.  Near as fast as it ballooned, it subsided, leaving behind a very sensitive perineum.   I'd not have been able to sit on a bicycle seat for a thousand foot peddle for a million bucks.  Although for a million bucks, I'd probably have given it a shot.   This aching perineum hung around for about three weeks and I continue to bless the near by department story that put zero gravity lounge chairs on sale at 70% off.  By the end of week three I was wondering what I might get for the lounge chairs in a garage sale.

Week four arrived with my scrotum again swelling, but in a very, very minor way compared to the first go round, and as with the first, it righted itself in a few days.  My perineum, however, was just as angry about it the second time and for the past week I've been back in the lounge chairs and whimpering at the thought of sitting on a hard, or even well padded, chair.   When I take to my bed it feels much better an hour later, as it does when I sprawl in my zero gravity chair as I am doing now.  Ahhhhhh! 

Like a family dog, my wife takes me out for regular walks.   I am just back from such an outing which included a walk along our river, a ride in the river taxi, and a walk around an area we call "The Forks" where the Red River of Fargo flooding fame and the Assiniboine meet.  Coming home in the car I put the seat back, back, and slid forward so I was able to ride on my tail bone.  Ahhhhh!

I confess I'm disappointed to have aching crotch back when I thought I'd conquered and moved on.  It would be a huge comfort if anyone has had a similar experience and can assure me it's "normal" and will again subside.  If this hasn't happened to anyone it would be a comfort (not a huge comfort, but a comfort,) if you'd lie and still post claiming it had happened to you and had gone in a week or so.  This ache/pain has been around for a week and I'm getting fed up with it.

And, before you ask, no, I haven't been taking pain meds for it.  Brilliant thinker that I am,  that just occurred to me!  I carry them in my pocket all the time, but doubtless they don't work if left in the bottle.  I shall take one ASAP.  There.  Done.  The answer is, yes.  I've taken my pain meds.  No one ever accused Sleepless of being the sharpest knife in the drawer.

On a different thread, I posted that the only real post-op pain issue I had was my bowels restarting. I made that statement in the context of (maybe incorrectly) considering only the immediate post-op period from waking up after surgery until the catheter was out.

I also dealt with severe pain in the perineum. Both before surgery and after. I'm pretty sure that for me it was triggered by how I sat and what I sat on after surgery. I had several bad bouts where the only relief I could get was taking a handful of extra strength tylenol and sitting on the toilet seat until the the tylenol kicked in (that took all pressure off my perineum). In hindsight I probably should have used the narcotic pain relievers I was given after release from hospital, but they consipate me pretty good, so I didn't really use them. Goodlife kindly pointed out to me recent reports of liver damage using tylenol, so, if the need arises again I will use the prescription ones.

This pain has been cyclical for me but the good news is it is going away.  I still use two pillows at work and in my home office; the top one being a donut. It works for me.

David, I'm going to take meds today. I've got a 400mg Ibuprofen in me and I'll keep on them, or the 500mg tylenol today.

Mike, I salute you for what you've done, and are doing. I'm lucky to have a son running the company and so I've not gone back to the office. I "feel" for you sitting.

Timmy, while I hate to hear of others feeling the same ache/pain, at the same time it's a comfort to know that I've not popped all the stitches inside, or something.

I can't imagine needing to sit for very long at work, or anywhere for that matter. Have you tried a rubber blow up ring? And, do your pain meds. It took me a day to figure that one out! If you do the Ibuprofen, I understand from a doctor friend that it's best to take it with some food -- even a few crackers, or a slice of bread is good he said.

Today I've taken a 400mg Ibuprofen around 10 this morning, and a 500 mg Tylenol about four this afternoon. Between these two pain meds, and I think the perineum just being better today ( I had about 9 hours of sleep last night and I'm sure that down time helped) it's been an easier day for me. It's bedtime, I've had a snack (bless my wife who brought me tea and a toasted English muffin with marmalade to me in bed!) and I'll take an Ibuprofen to ward off the perineum hex.
