Had my catheter removed today and I am hoping that I am on the way to continence at the moment I only squirt a bit when I stand or sit down but not all the time

I must say that my doctor surprised me I thought that he would remove the catheter give me a pad or two tell me to drink to check for any restrictions well he gave me about 5 tissues and said that I might drip a bit go away for 2 hrs and drink a lot of water which I did and found that I was going to the toilet ever 15 minutes but I did not drip return to see the doctor told him the news and he said that he would see me in 1 week the only worry that I had was that I had more than a 2hr drive home which I made OK but started to squirt when I got out of the car

It seems that in Thailand men do not have continence problems because wherever I try the nearest thing that I can get are unisex pads well do not laugh but at the moment I am using some of my babies nappies cut in half very comfortable and work fine

The only worry that I have it will get worse tomorrow

Colin, glad to hear you got the catheter out of you. Some drs here in the US are prepared with real pads when they pull the tube, and others do just what you said. Guess we should have warned you to bring something for yourself just in case.

That's an important first step after surgery, wish you all the best in your healing process.

Greetings, Colin.  Congratulations - isn't it a great relief to get rid of your constant companion of the last several days?  I think I was more excited about getting rid of Mr. Hang than I was in getting out of the hospital.  I really feel for guys like David in SC who have had to have a catheter for so long. 

Trust the good results will continue.  I was one of the lucky ones - dry almost from the start.  Keep us posted and enjoy beautiful Thailand. David

I was told to bring a pad...

Wasn't told about NOT wearing boxers...Then again, if I had a brain I should have been able to figure that out myself.

David in SC It was not my intention not to take a pad I just could not find a male pad so I thought that maybe the doctor would issue some (in Thailand the hospitals always like to sell you something) then I could try and locate some replacements

CPA It was a double edged sword for me the only thing that I dreaded was the thought of incontinence and while I had the catheter I was OK but I am happier now this level of incontinence I can handle

Colin, understand those sentiments, my original cath time was 63 days after surgery, and when it came time to finally be rid of it, I had much anxiety about the incontinence part. In reality, I had one rough week with it, and then it quickly improved.

Steve dont be hard on yourself, lol. What would us guys know even in the subconcious mind about needing or wearing pads.

This is really good news. In the great majority of cases incontinence moves only in the direction of getting better (assuming you don't devote a day to drinking coffee and lifting weights) Baby diapers -- great idea!

Interesting question for the anthropologists -- do Thai men leak? If so, what do they do about it? Or is it just that Thai surgeons are so accomplished?

As almost everyone here will tell you, walk, walk, drink, drink. And in your special case you might try bouncing you boy on your knee and enjoy being on the right side of PC.

geezer there is a lot less PC in Thailand so incontinence is less prevalent my doctor from day one quoted me a success rate of 95% of total continence and the way he acted this morning he fully expected me to be continent it is such a confident boost when your doctor acts that way it gives you the feeling that you do not want to let him down the other thing I remembered from the first meeting was him saying that the most important thing for continence is the stitching of the uterus together and although the Robotics have a good record he felt that by hands on he felt he was as good if not better and his figures showed this but on the ED side his success rate was 50%

Thailand huh! My family spent quite bit of time there years ago. I had to take my then 5 year old son to the hospital while in Chang Mai. He was getting very weak and was deteriorating quickly. The Doc examined him and said "This little boy is very sick. He has bronchitis." She prescribed antibiotics and in a few days he was normal again. The visit and the antibiotics cast an equivalent of $5.25. They were very professional. But I still wouldn't have had the balls to let them do RP on me - (he says as he sits at the computer desk with a loaded diaper.)

I did not have much choice I knew that I would get looked after her with my girlfriend and family if I went anywhere else I would of had to deal with it on my own although the cost was not important it cost me 320000 Baht (just under $11000) all in High quality room 5 nights there were extras included I have a blood problem so a hematologists was on hand at the op and it took over 5 hrs to perform I must admit I am using half a babies diaper per day (cannot get male pads in Thailand) and have only squirted twice today and I knew that was coming so I most probably could of stopped them so I am more that happy at the moment

That is great news. Sounds like you are months ahead of some of us.

Now if you tell you are having an erection, I think maybe I'll just start crying !

WOW.. What can I say that has not been said already. I am very impressed with your progress. That is GREAT news for you. Congrats. I thought I did great using a thin pad for 2 wks. Most have had a more difficult time with control. Be thankful!

Goodlife while I cannot say that the ED side is not important to me I was always more worried about being incontinent so I will take what I have and be happy but if an erection happens I will be very happy but it is not a big problem to me if it does not happen

Jeff I am very thankful I cannot believe it either what with having hardley any pain after 3 days and very little incontenece I was woundering if the doctor as done the right operation

Hi Goodlife just thought that I would let you know that this morning I woke to what I think was about a 50% erection it did not last long but I did not try to help it either this is the second time this as happened the other time was during the night and in the morning I put it down to my dreaming it so maybe there is life there still but as I said as far as ED is concerned I will take what I am given because every time I look at my baby I know that I was very lucky that he was born before all this

Colin45 OK... Now you are starting to p*ss me off. I woke this morning to something warm and semi-firm and 50% full too - a diaper pad.
I was told that I should not even think of having an erection until one month so I do not "damage the doctor's handiwork". Are you sure they didn't take out an appendix or something? You know how things can get lost in translation between ภาษาไทย and English.

Well Jeff that is what I was thinking then I remembered that I had my appendix removed 34 years ago come to think about it I made a quick recovery from that to I was walking and playing 18 holes of golf 9 days after that operation

Hi Colin,

Glad to hear you are doing so well. Bet you're glad to get rid of the catheter. I consider myself very lucky...was dry and without needing pads within a few days of catheter removal even though I used them for security/peace of mind for a week or two. I had a couple mini-erections with the catheter in. Struggling with ED now.

Hey, Maybe we can hold the GFMPH Conference in Hua Hin. If I recall, it's particularly beautiful this time of year. We can all hand deliver Tenas, Guards and Depends to Colin. (The lucky SOB)

I consider myself very lucky to have urinary control as quickly as I did. When I went to the hospital to see the surgeon and have my catheter removed (he did it himself), I had a small duffle bag loaded with extra underwear, extra pants, a couple extra shirts (in case one or more got wet), man-diapers, mega-pads, in-betweeners and light-days. I just didn't know what to expect. The surgeon asked me what I brought. I pointed at my bag and he rummaged around for a few seconds and with a chuckle slapped a smaller Tena in my underwear and sent me on my way.

ED is another story.
