my 3 month psa came back at 0.5 last time it was 0.01 just found out didnt get to ask alot of questions have a dr. appt. just wondered whats going to happen next

What will happen next?  If this were me I'd make an appointment with my primary care physician or urologist to discuss the test and the results and I'd listen to what they have to say in the way of interpretation, significance and if any change in my post-operative care/treatment is called for.  There are variables that may have caused the different results in your case that none of us reading this are aware of and we don't know you or your health history, etc.  Stay calm, think positive and before you go that next appointment with the doctors write down all of your questions so that you don't forget to ask something.

A rise from 0.01 to 0.5 in just three months is a large increase. It is possible that you have a misplaced decimal point, and it is really 0.05 -- in that case you have nothing to worry about.

If it really is 0.5 -- the usual trigger point is 0.2 -- then you can expect to be discussing further treatment options.

It appears your first PSA after surgery was withing a week? Yes, please follow-up to determine if your PSA is .5 or .05.

If it is a misplaced decimal point then you have nothing to worry about. If on the other hand it is 0.5 then that is a very rapid increase in your PSA and you need to consult with your Urologist and an oncologist to come up with a follow up salvage treatment. You shouldn't worry too much, there are many other bullets to fight PC.

I think I would call the Drs office and check you numbers. As others have said a decimas point off makes a big difference. If you are correct in you number see you Dr to see what is going on.

Thanks guys for all your responses. I called the doctors office to confirm that my lastest psa did rise to .5 . I have a doctors appt. on friday. I guess I will find out what is going on then. To think this would all be over when I had my prostate taken out just seems like a roller coaster ride for me. The worst thing for me is not knowing what is next. I can handle it better when i know what is going on and what I have to do. Mark

slowpoke, now that you confirmed your post surgery psa rise is .5 indeed, it is a more serious situation, and to some degree, time is of the esscence. you need to see a good radiation oncologist asap, or if you have access to a good prostate oncologist if possible. at .5, post surgery, you are right on the edge of the window of opportunity if salvage radiation is recommended. you are young, your stats were similar to mine, but if corrrect, that .5 is a pretty strong reaccurance this soon after your surgery.

With a rapid rise to .5 I would also make an appointment with a prostate oncologist. Such a rapid rise is more indicative of a systemic reoccurrance than a local reoccurrance. You need to get the best information from the best specialists to determine if it is local or systemic.
