Well, we got to the hospital at 0830 but didn't leave till after 1600. My surgeon had two ops before mine, ran into complications and one hour surgeries turned into two hours. So I was all prepped and no where to go. It was a long, long wait. When it was my turn, the 30 minutes or so turned into a good hour, and the one hour recovery was closer to two. The hard dialation was done, and the suprapubic catheter was installed. Boy, that hurt a lot more than I was expecting, and that was part of the reason I was in recovery so long. Normal pain meds didn't begin to cut the pain, felt like I had been stabbed with a thick scewdriver all the way through my bladder. In the end, they did a pass with morphine, and that delayed the recovery time. Went home with a leg bag, and been on the big bag ever since. Rested all evening, had a rough time sleeping despite the meds, and been home all day nursing my new wounds. The pain on the catheter not as sharp, but now I can feel the results of the dialation.
It's very strange to be on a cath that doesn't come out through my penis. It looks and feels odd where it exits me, and my surgeon put it on my left side as requested. Last night, very full and bloody content, today, slowly clearing up, which makes me feel better.
The uro/surgeon talked to the rad. oncologist the night before surgery, and she said that she wants to go ahead full speed on Monday morning with the first radiation treatment. She said she can work around the surgery part, and the catheter doesn't present her with any unusual problems.
Right now, trying to heal up somewhat before Monday. Fourth surgery since November, now I am getting a little gun shy of thining about any more anytime soon. This is truly catheter #8, and will be my friend now till sometime in December at the earliest.
Wasn't any fun, but this is another part of the puzzle done for me.
