Dr. Patrick Walsh's Guide to Surviving Prostate Cancer is the bible for PCa.

I agree with Paul1959's recommendation of Walsh's Guide as one of the "bibles" for PC.  Walsh is a pioneering PC surgeon.  A wee bit of a notable tilt towards surgery in this book.

I would also recommend A Primer on Prostate Cancer: The Empowered Patient's Guide by Stephen Strum and Donna Pogliano, which is generally considered more balanced.  Strum co-founded PCRI (Prostate Cancer Research Institute).  Someone else also recently posted the link to online PCRI papers which is an excellent wealth of information; I will re-post here:  http://www.prostate-cancer.org/education/education.html

Both of the books listed here are outstanding reference library additions for a PC patient, and both can be delivered to your home within days via any of the many online bookseller.  I have, and use, both books.  Good info on BPH, prostatitis and PC in both books.  Online chat sites like this are good for inquiring about the experiences of others, but if you want knowledge of what's going on and why, it's best to refer to the experts.

Peter Scardino's book was and is my guide through this whole process.

However, there is no substitute for going directly to the medical articles yourself via PubMed. With a little patience and the use of one of the online medical dictionaries, you can get the information you really need, unfiltered by anyone's agenda.

I'm with zen. Things are happening so fast, that by the time a book gets published and recognozed as noteworthy, the information is 2 to 5 years out of date.

I realize some facts about PC don't change, but with the advent of Hufu, proton, PCA3, etc. etc, books can't move that fast.

The internet is so fantastic. I can't imagine having PC 10 years ago.

Walsh's book is still a good choice, if you are only going to buy a single book. Yes, he's a surgeon, and there is lots of bias toward surgery, but then again, surgery is the #1 choice for primary treatment. The rest of the book has good info. I read the entire book several times a year before I ever had a full dx of PC.

There are a lot of other good ones out there, and of course, endless choices on the web.

I have given away all my other PC books to other brothers here at HW, or else I would offer you some for free.

I kept my Walsh book, though, which I still use for review at times.

Strum's book is the best; you have to read it a couple of times before you really understand it.
"The Chna Study" is the best book on diet.

You will enjoy Walsh book. I got it after my surgery (Robotic) and wished I would have read it before.

Both good books and very likely the best on PCa available especially for laypersons. I got my 5 minutes of fame on Dr. Strums book which is the best overall book I could find back in 2002-2003 era. I am on the inside front cover of the second edition (fyi) and met Donna P. back on the PCa forums way back...she helped get me in the book. I am the endorser whom says "This book trumps them all" book has our photos on it of a few fighters on PCa from that time frame.

This book lit a fire on fighting this for me and probably helped me get this far in the journey in good health, my stats were high side and bad overall. Very fortunate thus far to even be here.

Dx 2002- emergency room total urinary blockage (ooch!), bpsa 46.6  12/12 biopsies all 75-95% PCa~gleasons found 7,8,9's (2 sets about all equally too), ct and bone scans revealed nothing (clear=supposedly).

I read all the books mentioned from the library, pre-op. The one I wanted to own though was Dr. Patrick Walsh's "Guide to Surviving Prostate Cancer", second edition. I purchased it through Amazon.
