If you guys wouldnt mind me asking if any of you are retired? Just want to see what you do with your spare time.Thanks a million.

I am retired, and spend my time enjoying my retirement by doing anything I darn well please, well- almost, after all I am married. This explains why I am on here so much, I am checking in all during the day, and evening. I do a lot of internet research, and like to do video assembly and editing as a hobby.

I run a small electric motor, pump, welder, generator service company.

I don't want to retire for another 7 years or so, but I may end up being "retired" soon.

Either way, I have about 25 years' worth of reading planned out: philosophy, history, law, physics, maybe a few classic novels.

Plus I have a special needs child who will probably continue to live with me.

Not retired, but might as well be, been unemployed for 18 months, a career high. Usually do upper level accounting/financial positions like Controller or Chief Financial Officer. Also have held senior level IT positions.

Hi Zach.

I retired almost 7 years ago for 2 months and went back to work full time and I am going to try it again the first of Feb.  I hope I make it more than 2 months this time.  Of course I am 7 years older now and hopefully wiser.  I plan to work part time just to keep the spider webs out of the old grey matter.

I took the buy out after 34 years and started my own energy engineering consulting company. I've got a few big clients that keep me busy in spurts. That's why I am here and gone periodically. Give me a call if you need to know the green house gas emissions for your building, factory, or campus.
One pee pad is worth 42 grams of CO2 or 10 grams carbon equivalent.

I retired from the Air Force after 27 years. I went right back to work though since that won't pay the bills and get the kids through college!

I have to work 25 years more to reach the retirement age, cry loud! I do feel I am 70 now. I can't wait get retired and doing freelance work, which is same stuff as I am doing now.

Retired (early) two years ago after 32 years with an international management consulting firm. One month after retirement, I landed a part-time job at a local children's charity and am still there. Don't miss the corporate life at all!

John works full-time but since he is turning 60 next year, is starting to think about when he'd like to retire. Right now he is very happy at his job so there's no rush. And, his office is 7 miles from our house so the commute can't get much easier.

Not retired yet.  Part owner of a family business that's 52 years old this month.  Thought about retirement at 62, but with the economy may have to work until I'm 80.  It's a pretty good gig though since I only work 4 days a week, and take most of the afternoons off for radiation (short travel time there and back, plus a nap after lunch). I just re-read this and realized how good I have it.  Besides, most of the guys I know who took early retirement just sat around and eventually died.  I have 2 daughters who are learning the business, and doing quite well with it, so I may someday just go play golf and draw a salary as an advisor.

I am retired now almost 5 years and enjoying everyday.  I play tennis almost every day and live in beautiful Fl where the fishing is great, the weather is beautiful, and hope to get to enjoy this life for a while more.

Age 67. Retired two years ago, and sold my general contracting business in Florida and moved from a 100x120' waterfront property to a 7 acre spread in rural NC, SW of Raleigh. Learning how to clear land, grow a vegetable garden, find time for deer hunting for the first time in 30 years (two bucks so far this season). Enjoying the company of my beautiful wife of 43+ years, the visits of my 5 grandchildren when they can get here, fishing in my pond; finding and reconnecting with long lost nephews and nieces. Remodeling my kitchen, building a deer stand out back, and a pergola on the deck, tiling floors. Then I find out I have PCa. So now I add to this all: dealing with surgery, catheders, peeing my pants, psa tests, hot flashes from Lupron, anticipating RT next year. BUT, I am retired, and blessed, and tired every night. I love it.

Retired 11 years ago from the corporate world. Own and run a logistics consulting firm, so I can work as much or as litttle as I choose. Live in Sandoint Idaho in the summer and fish and hunt and enjoy the outdoor life and In Palm Springs in the winter and mostly golf and fish in Mexico. Never bored and very satisfied being retired and doing what ever I want when ever I want.

I retired 10 years ago after selling my business played golf for a few years moved to Thailand about 3 years ago I now have a 10 month old baby so my time is is fully used up and not a lot of spare time other than going to the bar every night

Well, I am 67 and still working. My wife is 59 (my trophy bride) and working too so retirement for me would be pretty lonely. Besides I can't tell my work from my hobbies so what would I retire to? I think that my boss would like to see me gone but I'll see him in court before he pushes me out.

I do have worries abut loosing it without noticing, but so far there is no evidence for this

I retired last year after practicing Dentistry in the U.S. , running a business, and ranching in Costa Rica the last 20 years. Before this PCa mess I played golf and flyfished the Gulf waters from my Hobie peddle kayak, read a lot, and exercised, and unfortunately, yard work. My wife and I travel to Montana for a few months every summer. I'm trying to get back into the swing of it all now little by little. It's taken two months for my energy level to return to a even a semblance of pre-surgery.


Jeff, am hoping SOON to reduce my pee pad carbon footprint.

I read an article last week about how retirement was becoming a thing of the past.

Besides needing the money - working offers a social life that many people don't have outside the "office."

Then there's the part - if I retire at 62 I get $xxxxx.xx - but if I wait till 66 it's another $500 a month or at age 70 its a total of $1100 a month more...I guess only time will tell.

I retired on halloween, one year ago and thoroughly enjoy every minute of it. I can't figure out how I had time to go to work. Building a model ship out of wood keeps me off the streets, and reading books is another great passtime as well as shooting snooker at the local legion every week. Cooking is also a passtime as well as gardening and chores around the house. It's great?

I'm retiring in June 2010.

The first few months I will be redecorating my house (thank God for central air). After that I will begin writing a book that I have already outlined. If it sells, great; if not I will put it on-line. The book will have nothing to do with PCa! BTW: I love cooking and working out, too; things that I never have time for now.

I'll be retired 6 years this February. I was offered an early out and I took it. Being I had 4 healthy retired years before my PCa dx made it all the better. I love being retired the time has flown by. Only in late winter do I start to get bored and thus some times drive to Arizona to play golf on green grass.

I had a friend who recently retired and 2 months later died of a heart attack. He put off retiring for about 5 years to get a slightly bigger pension. So what good is it now? Life is short enjoy the time you have it may not be as long as you hope.

   I'm with you Zig, I'm  going out in about three months,  that's as early as I can go.  I was offered a pretty nice retention bonus to stay awhile....... they don't have enough money to keep me.  Too much to do, gotta' make up for some lost time!

Retired on 5/29/09 after 44 years in the fulfillment/logistics/supply chain field with several large companies.....and one small one (which was the most fun). I live in North Florida 3 miles (as a seagull flies) from the beach. I fish in the surf and the tidal marshes when I feel like it, do a lot of reading when I don't, walk 2 miles every day and my wife and I have been able to spend more time with our kids and grandkids. I do volunteer work one day a week at our local library and I am about to get heavily involved doing volunteer work for the Second Harvest Food Bank that serves 16 counties in NE Florida. I love the sense of freedom that retirement has brought.....so far, it's the best job I've ever had.

I have no intention of retiring. I love what I do. I get up every day looking forward to going to work (except right now due to severe back pain!!)
