How long for pathology reports to come back after surgery?

Hi all, my father just completed open RP on Dec 21.

I know its the holidays but we have not heard about anything from pathology yet. I am getting anxious because a family friend performed the surgery (great urologist in NY), and I am worried he is waiting till after the new year to tell us what is going on...

How long did it take any of you to hear pathology results after your surgery?

I found out when I had the catheter removed. 10 days. No sense going to the Uro twice. I know the waiting is nerve-wracking but a few days either way would not have made a difference in my treatment. (I found out I was pT3a. Oh well...)

Not much help to you but I got the path report on the second day I was in the hospital (open surgery) but that is how it is done in Thailand very little waiting for any reports

Five business days after surgery. Waiting is the worst part! Best wishes for a clean report!

Our surgeon called us 4 days after surgery to give us the path report. When we went in a week later to have the staples and catheter removed, we got a print out of the report.

well, now I am worried .... I go see the doctor tomorrow to get the pathology report

- after surgery - I was told by nurse - it would take two days - when I told that to my doctor, he said - two weeks
-three weeks later when the catheter came out - the doctor said the report was not in yet and it would be ready on Jan 7, 2010 - another 4 weeks -
-so it has been 7 weeks since the surgery

-I am a pessimist ( expect a "d" in a school test and be pleased with a "c" or a "b") and feel that things are worse than originally thought due to rushing of the PR - initially 3 weeks after diagnosis changed to 6 weeks - hard mass on both lobes ( digital exam) and 6 of 12 biopsy samples cancerous (gleason 7) both lobes and enlarged prostate...

Bronson, that 7-week delay is clearly a result of that there nationalized medicine you all have up there in the Great White Socialist North!

Just a little black humor there. Seriously, it would be a huge surprise to me if the delay is occasioned by the nature of the pathology findings. Could be a large backlog, could be the specific pathologist assigned to your specimen had a 4-week vacation scheduled to Aruba and just couldn't cancel ... In any event, I agree with David, you deserve a king-size apology. If not a bottle of Johnny Walker Gold Label for your troubles.

- got the results back from the RP surgery - gonna take my time to digest the pathology report - basically - gleason scale the same as before - 7 - and only one postive margin -but not broken through - so just have to go back in 3 months for PSA level and if ok then 6 months -
- nice weight off my shoulders - not jumping for joy but pleased it is not worse - can now start to slowly exercise again - and drop off some of this post-op winter weight -
-will update signature with numbers later - will attempt to decifer the sloan-kettering nomogram and see what it says -

hello again - just to conclude this thread for me - RP on nov 18, 2009- I saw the doctor when he took out the catheter on dec 8, 2009 - the pathology report was concluded on dec 1, 2009 - - I received the pathology report on Jan 8, 2010 from doctor -

update on signature - Post Surgery Biopsy: pT3a- gleason 7 - extraprostatic extension - perineural invasion - prostate weight - 34.1gm - see doc in three months for next PSA

there are a lot of big words in this report - I think I have covered the bases - I will guess that some of the nerves have been spared since doc gave me some freebies as well as prescription for daily cialis willie wehab .... watch out for wasscilly wabbits !!
