Silly question I know....just curious. Pomegranate juice, blueberries, etc...

I know this might be a silly question.

I do believe that pomegranate juice, blueberries, green tea, etc and so proclaimed cancer fighting foods do help in someway. Okay maybe they don't help but when you are at a point you will do anything, you say to yourself, "if it can't hurt, why not try?"

Anyway, I got my dad to drink a glass of pomegranate juice everyday. But now I am reading all this stuff about blueberries, especially following Michael Milkin's regime for a cure, talking about a smoothie that he makes every morning which he is sure helped in remaning undetectable for over 17 yrs. Just in case you were wondering he had advanced stage prostate cancer, t3b, gleason 9 with lymph node involvement.

Okay now to my question, I don't live a driveable distance from my parents. I want to make sure that my father (and mom for that matter since these ingredients are deemed to prevent cancer as well) have them readily accessible to them. Is their any website that I can order from to have them directly sent to my parents? Has anyone heard of a website where they deliver such things? ANy feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Very early trials with pomegranate juice were encouraging enough that they have been extended. But this research is in a VERY early stage.

The problem with all miracle cures is that they require you to believe that your doctor is lazy, ignorant, or greedy. If you have the slightest thought your father's doctor is any or all of these, then change doctors immediately! Cancer is very frightening and engenders feelings of helplessness. These magical substances offer the illusion of control but little beyond that. Being far from your dad, you must feel especially powerless -- this is not to criticize you, but to ask you to consider that you may be especially vulnerable.

I investigated many of these claims and discussed them with my internist. In the end, I chose not use anything.

If your financial situation is good enough so that it makes no difference, you can get anything delivered anywhere. On the other hand the belief that you can buy cancer protection is, unfortunately, a myth

The way I look at it is that it can't hurt. So i've been taking, trying many different things. I did pomegranite juice, then switched to capsules since it was less expensive, take green tea, green barley and acai. Also bought a juicer and making many different juice drinks. At least I'm doing my part to help the economy if nothing else!

I used pomegranate juice for 2 years before diagnosed with PC. Could it have been worse without juice? won't ever know. Still take the juice because good juices help in other ways. Had a lot of joint problems that cleared up with cherry juices.
so as others have stated, the jury is still out on their effectiveness but it can't hurt.

My sentiments are similar to Bro. Larry above. The foods/juices listed are good for your general health. I do not believe there is any hard evidence that they can prevent or slow down cancer. My medical staff of GP, Uro/Surgeon, and my Rad. Oncologist do not believe that any food(s) or dietary supplements directly help. However, they agree that everyone should be on a "heart healthy" diet, regardless of their medical maladies.

Certainly won't hurt anything. My best to your dad.

plwboy - have your doc check out possibility of tendency towards gout - trouble processing protein - black cherry juice is very good at helping flush out the system for people with gout and one early symptom is joint pain - bioflavinoids like rose hips vitamin c help too - they break up the protein chrystals that form in joints.
-I ain't a doctor but have had to deal with this personally.
-just add it to the list of questions for the doctor(s)

hey tatt2man,
believe it or not it was my primary physician who suggested cherry juice 20 years ago
when I had a case of gout.
he did not prescribe any medication unless this didn't work.
used it for arthritis problems later in life.
my wife and I both take concentrate for joint problems.
I still think there is good in natural juices, etc.
But still no miracle juice yet

I'm in a similar situation, my father dx'd with prostate cancer, and along with his scheduled treatment, I am trying to get him to eat healthier and drink both fresh fruit smoothies (blender) and fresh juiced vegetables (juicer).
I too live quite a distance away.
I basically set him up with the required hardware, showed him how to use them, wrote out exact recipes for juice and smoothies, a grocery list of exactly what to buy at the supermarket, etc.
Basically tried to make it as easy as possible, and used recipes that taste half decent.

try xxxxx for delivery. Haven't used it so can't say how it is. DH used cherry juice for joint pain and it works for him.

My Onc suggested vitamin D and fish oil as the only two supplements that have biological explanation of why it _might_ work. He also said that the large epidemiological studies of people with prostate cancer showed no correlation of diet and recurrence except for small correlation with a diet with a lot of fish.

I do drink pomegranate juice, green tea extract and baby aspirin as these are presumed to have some benefit to slow prostate cancer in vitro, but also shown to be good for your heart. My Onc says anything good for your heart is good for prostate cancer.
