Hi all, I am a new member. Surgery March 08. Went very well. Results good organ contained, but Gleason upgraded from 7 to 8. First two PSA's good, .01. 9 month went up to .07, retest was .05. Must wait for further tests of course, but I am starting to think about the possibility that I will need further treatment. I had surgery at Hartford Hospital and I am seeing my surgeon for follow-up care. Hartford Hospial has a cancer treatment facility, the Grey Cancer Cancer, but I was wondering if it is worthwhile going to a national center for excellance. Locally there is Yale, Dana Farber, Sloan, and MIT. Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated.

BB welcome aboard. I dont know the answer to your question, but Lordy you seem to have some great choices. I go to a local clinic 25 minutes from home and it is part of a regional hospital located in another city. They have all the equipment of the Hospital such as IGRT &IMRT. I like the short drive to and from. My best to you and your family.

Hi BB_Fan,

Thus far your numbers are still quite low and there is hope that they might stay in that low range. I waited until my PSA reached 0.1 before having further treatment. You are fortunate to have such famous centers within your reach, but it is my opinion that it is more important to pick a very experienced Oncologist than a location. If it become necessary, I would choose the most experienced Doctor at a location that is within my reach.

I agree with Mag in his post. You want the radiation oncologist with the most experience dealing with prostate cancer recurrance you have resources and ability to obtain. The actual delivery is done by techs, and most facilities have top notch hardware. The most important part is the mapping and planning done by the oncologist, that will determine where, when, and how much radiation you will need and get.

Just like surgeons, its all about the experience.

I'm hoping that you'll be staying in the Zero Club for a long time and that you won't have need for any further treatment.

As others have said, hopefully you won't need further treatment. However, if there does come a time when you want/need to consider salvage radiation treatment, Dana Farber would be a very good choice. You could contact Dr. Anthony V. D'Amico there. Best wishes.

Thanks for the advice. Greatly appreciated. Hopefully won't need additional treatment. I think I will look into Dana Faber, as well as Grey. I guess I am pretty lucky to be located near several very good facilities. I am 90 minuts from Boston and 60 minutes from New Haven.
