OK-- just had surgery.
I've been turning off the SP Cath for 2 days now.
I've joined the world of incontinence, pads, etc.
So far, it's no fun but not nearly as bad as I feared.
What I am finding is a greatly increased sense of urgency. I get uncomfortable after 90 minutes and generally have to go after 2 hours. I generally pee 125-150 cc. with no residual urine (we have to turn the cath back on for 5 minutes after each urination to measure any residual urine).
I guess this isn't bad. I do leak, but I suspect it will be 1 pad per day (too soon to tell just yet). I leak a few drops going from sitting to standing, coughing, sneezing, etc. especially during that uncomfortable time.
My question: is this pretty good for starters? Can I assume this might well be the worst it will be?
A more important question:
Suggestions for that urgent feeling? Should I try and delay going even more (ie: train my bladder) or would that possibly do some damage, especially since surgery was a week ago?
I'm sure I'll be asking my doctor these questions, but I welcome your input.
Mel (cooling time until tomorrow's catheter removal and path. report -- nervous!!)
