When I started investigating prostate cancer (prior to coming to HW) I drew parallels to my life line and what may have predisposed me to this cancer.
It was all a jumble of thoughts and ideas but kept coming back to the level of sexual activity of the individual.
After I joined HW I learned of different procedures after the fact (surgery, radiation, hormone therapy, etc) and got a better understanding of how the prostate cancer works.
Since I was a young child I always have thought of cancer as its own entity, like an animal trying to survive in a world ( in this case - our body) - what does it eat? - what slows it down - speeds it up... how does it reproduce - how do we kill it - and how does it fight back when we try to kill it.
There has been discussions about
the overuse of the PSA in diagnosis and treatment of men. But what if there could be a genetic timeline prior to the start of PSA testing? I am a firm believer in preventative medicine - some may dismiss this approach as more testing and more worry and more $$$ to the corporations.
- it is an avenue to approach so that the prostate can be taken care of so it never does develop the triggers that start prostate cancer.
