On April 20th I had the AMS800 Artificial Urinary Sphincter installed. It is due to be activated in early June. At present I am doctoring an ugly scar on my scrotum and still enduring a persistent incontinence. I was told to be "resourceful" in keeping my incision dry although I am still leaking uncontrollably.

I am not complaining because everything seems to be healing as I expected. I can keep the incision clean. I can't keep it dry.

Is there anyone here who has experience, or knows someone with experience, with this device ?

I had the AMS800 installed in May 2009 and was totally incontinent until it was activated in July 2009. I was using 4 diapers with 6 -8 pads in a 24 hour period. I didn't do anything different. Anytime I changed a pad or diaper, I would wipe off with an antiseptic wipe.

good luck with your healing from the device. i am sure the keeping it dry and clean is much easier said than done. i hope in june when its activated, it will change your life.

Looks like you are a short way to success. Dealing with the hygine issue will be a bother but hopefully a short term problem.

 I am headed to the AUS also sometime later this year. Question, it sounds like the incision was on the scrotum. I was under the impression the incision for the AUS is in the area between the scrotum and anus. Can this be done more than one way? I also read on the forum that someone had both the AUS and a penil implant done at the same time. My Uro does not do this and says they need to be done at different times.

It may be my incision was directly into the scrotum because I had a bilateral orchiectomy at the same time I had salvage surgery in 2007. There are no testicles to contend with, making the incision site uncontested.

I asked my doctor about doing the AUS and Implant in the same surgery. While he said that he has performed both procedures in the same surgery, in my case he felt that they needed to be separate. With that being said, it sounds like it's a case by case decision for some doctors.
