Need help again guys!

Although I've never had a colonoscopy when I had my original physical in January the doctor said there was no blood showing in the stool sample.

Do you think one is warranted or would an ultrasound/MRI be better?

The colonoscopy is just another procedure /maintenance check you are supposed to do at 50. Like changing the timing belt at 100,000 miles in a Honda. Everything can seem fine so you think there is no reason to do it. It's inconvenient to arrange, the cost can be more than $500 and you might not need it. But if there is a problem the followup costs are very high.
The Honda has an interference engine which will damage the valves and pistons... Wait, what are we talking about? Oh, your colon. If you have polyps the doc will snip them out while he's in there. It's much easier to do when they are small.
I think one of the reasons wives were invented was to start bugging men to get the colonoscopy the day we turn 50. I managed to put it off until 53.
You probably have enough other problems on your plate now but put it on your calendar anyway.

Midi, I agree that a colonscopy is in order - I call it the "welcome to 50" test. The occult fecal cards (the "smears") are good for detecting blood but blood is not always present with colorectal cancer.

Oh, well, at least it can be fixed. You know, there is no rush at all. Maybe wait until after the biopsy (if you need one). Heck, if you have PC (and hopefully not) and you go for surgery, they could fix both.

The only way to fix it is surgery, but these days it isn't a big deal.

Midi...I just cannot relate to your having to catheterize yourself a number of time a day! Your last few posts haven't mentioned constipation so it sounds like your primary concern is urological and a VERY high PSA.....Hernia, a piece of cake. Had one on my left side I had known about for quite a few years and wanted to get as many medial issues I had taken care of before Obamacare gets serious. My hernia operation took 20 minutes / local anesthetic with a little nap, in at 8:00 AM and home by 10:00 AM. Nothing heavy for a few weeks. Prostate biopsy 12/23/09, DiVinci prostatectomy 2/10/2010, Colonoscopy 3/20/2010 (every three years) and they usually find a couple of benign pollops. Colonoscopy usually takes about 15 / 20 minutes max. with twilight anesthetic (no big deal)

Back to YOUR problems....Sticking a straw up your wiener several times a day is bound to cause irritation and maybe even some bleeding! You've got to get to the bottom of your urinary problems LAST MONTH!

74 years old - PC contained in the gland - sized at 106 grams (very large) - DiVinci Heny Ford 2/10/10 - nerves spared - zero pads about 4/20/10 - .25 MG Siagra generic Viagra / nightly.

Midi...Flomax as I understand....will shrink the prostate supposedly making it easier to "go" also making it like MUSH or JELLO thus more difficult to deal with should you need surgery or something. As I've mentioned in earlier posts my 106 gram (lime sized) prostate didn't cause me to ever consider a catheter or flowmax. Had it not been for my positive biopsy I would still have it. PSA as high as yours suggests a very bad urinary tract infection which you've been dealing with or you might join the rest of us here in the big "C" club which isn't the end of the world and the sooner you get to the bottom of of your problem the sooner it can be fixed....Would imagine your wiener is constantly sore!!!!

The flomax does not shrink your prostate (avodart does that). It relaxes some muscles to enable you to pee better.

It helped me tremendously with NO side effects.

Colonoscopy = zero pain. Process takes 15 or 20 minutes. Since they inflate your colon with gas you have to pass that in recovery afterwords which might take a half hour or so (can be a noisy time). Used to wheelchair you to your ride but this past time I walked. Take it easy the rest of the day nothing strenuous. If they find / snip off a polyp there may be a spot of blood. I had three small ones and had a couple of pink spots on the paper.

Nausea may depend on what they gave you for a sedative. I get violently ill from most anesthetics, so I don't take any.

It is no worse than the gas pains post RP, when they go around a bend. Plus you are awake and can watch the screen.

Should be no pain post procedure. Most of the side effects are from the Valium or whatever they give you.
