Guys:

I just finishe one year of ADT 3, I'm scheduled for one more year, then we'll sit back and see what my  PSA does.

Here's my question:  How long did it take you to get your T levels back to normal readings and for the other side effects to resolve?  I've been pretty lucky with the side effects so far, hot flashes seem to be the only issue. (Man, I'm having a big right now.) 

As a side note, I did 3 months of ADT before and after my surgery.  It took about a month and a half for my T level to get back in the normal range.

Dale:  I see that you're training for a triathalon, "you da man".  I just got off of the treadmill and 2 miles wore my a-- out.

Hi David,
I stopped taking Casodex in September '09. My previous shot of Lupron was in May '09. My T levels on the day we started the off phase was 21. In January of this year it was 125. In May it was 230. That was my last measurement. We talked about the possibility of using androgel to accelerate the t levels, but Vogelzang said let's wait. His concern was that if we did start using androgel that my body may slow down making it's own testosterone. (visualize the body builder with the small cahunas).

That's the technical side. I stopped having hot flashes in February. Of course living in the desert I started having them again in June, but it had nothing to do with testosterone. Mentally, I lost interest in home decorating and shoe shopping, and I started noticing the female body again around March. Sexual function returned around that time as well. And the first encounter after three years without it was...well...how should I say...good!

Seriously, I feel good again. Pretty normal. I don't see my oncologist until November making it the first time I haven't been in a doctors office for 6 months ~ since the day my PSA came back elevated in a routine physical in October 2006.

Tony, thats good on the dr visit part. I was thinking about that part, since 11/2008, I have been seeing my uro/surgery anywhere from 1-3 times a month ever since. Think my longest gap was a full month here and there. Couldn't imagine a six month no-doctor time.

I guess I should clarify that. I will see my oncologist twice in about three weeks but not for a doctors visit. He has invited me to come to his oncology group board of directors where i will be presenting about where I am with prostate cancer, and I will also be introducing UsTOO to them as well. Then two days later he is speaking at our UsTOO group about Provenge, Abiraterone, and about Cabazitaxel... I have invited him to dinner that night, but not sure if his schedule is permitting.

Purg, David:  Good idea, I'll update after this post.

Tony: Thanx for the info. on the rebound time, I would be super interested in what your Doc. has to say about the new drugs in the pipeline.  My philosophy on this diseaese is hit it as hard as you can as soon as you can because I believe we're going to find something that, although may not be a total cure it will put this disease into long term remission.  The new drugs/discoveries show that to be the case. Disclaimer:  I'm an optimist in most everything I do so take that last statement as such. You gotta believe!!!!!!!!

I go to both the Univ. of Washington and M.D. Anderson for 2 sets of eyes, both Drs. are very positive on the steps being taken now.

As for the heat in Vegas, we recently bought a house in Maricopa Arizona, one day last month it was 118 degrees in our backyard.  I love the heat but that's a little much.

for me the side effects took about a year to go away completely. I took my last Lupron shot March 2009 and it was a three month shot. I would say that around Feb 2010 I started feeling a little spunky again. I was always a runner and when I was on ADT 3 I found it very difficult to run so I switched to lap swimming and I am glad I did. Not that I am off and the T levels are climbing my triathlon training is much easier.
I believe you said that you had one more year to go is that right? If so I would keep doing treadmill runs since it is easier on the bones and if you can do some low impact high cardio stuff like swimming or stationary biking. ADT3 is a touch combo of drugs however the side effects can be managed better if you can find the strength to get moving.

I would say we're about the same Dale. That is if you look at from the time of the last shot. My last Lupron injection was May '09. It was a 4 month dose (30mg). I stopped the Casodex in September, but I was still under the influence for several months. I could say it was about a year after my last Lupron injection that my T level was just a tick below low normal.

But doing good now!

Dale:  Thanx for the info, I know I'm looking down the road a ways but it's better than looking back I believe.
