My surgery is only 25 days away. It seems like the past 2-3 months have been consumed by focusing on this cancer. My wife and I have seen several doctors, read books, spoken with similarly-situated men, and have decided on a course of action (
open surgery). In addition, I've taken the standard battery of pre-surgical tests and have been cleared for surgery by my primary care physician.
I think it's a good time for the two of us to get away and relax for a while. We're heading to a romantic resort in upstate New York and have promised one another that the words "prostate" or "cancer" will not be spoken while we're away. (I will, however, continue to surreptitiously do my kegel exercises every day!)
Once we're back, I'll be in the home stretch before surgery and can concentrate on getting all of the things I'll need to have in the house in order to make the recovery as easy as possible. After surgery, I'll continue to take things a day at a time.
