The advise you got from the others is good.

Look at all your options before you make a decision which will affect the rest of your life and potentially your mates life.

The other area which you need to review is your family history of Prostrate cancer and affect.  In my case, I was diagnosed at 50 but had 3 uncles who died of Prostrate Cancer at 54, 58 & 62.   I chose radical because I needed options if the cancer returned for additional treatment such as radiation and chemo. 

 My PSA went from 3.4 to 6.2 in 6 wks so that and based on the very early results of my biopsy, My urologist said every was very early, I went radical route.

Any decision on how you treat has its pros and cons, you need to concern both short and long term results.

Anx: The distance from the treatment center was a big factor for my husband's decision on surgeon. In June I called Dr. Catalona's office in Chicago (Joy, office mngr. was great) for an apptmt. They gave us July 7, with July 6th for pre-surg consult. That same time Walsh's office gave us a pre-consult apptmt in late August, with a possible surgical date of early Oct. Our Boston surgeon (an hour's drive from our home) gave us July 6th. His numbers were good, he was chief of urology, so to avoid hotel stay and flight my husband opted for Boston. He wanted me in his room, so we chose to spend the money on the private room. (Catalona's hospital would have allowed me to stay for free).
His stats were very like yours. The whole experience of researching and consults was a nightmare, no if ands or buts. But we've all lived through this, and you will come out the other side. Just get your slides reviewed by the best (JHopkins), as I mentioned in my first post, to see if you need to look any further. Good luck.

Ditto!! Very good advice!!! Don't freak out to the point of not examining all options.
