I now understand why people disappear

I can now understand why people disappear from this site after having surgery whilst the Internet where I am is non existent it is not the main reason that I have not been on here much After my second PSA reading showed an increase and the long wait for my next reading (6 months) I became a bit depressed that all I could do was sit and wait so I tried to forget about it but whenever I came onto this site it reminded me of the problems that I would have if I had if the PSA kept going up so I restricted myself to just looking in now and again to remind me what people were up to and that there are people worst off that me Since my last result come back lower I have been able to satisfy myself that if my PSA did start to rise again that I would not seek any more treatment my thinking is that I will be 67 years old by the time I have another 3 PSA tests and with a Gleason of 3+3 I might die of something else so why waste time on having radium treatment

Hi Colin

Well I for one am glad you do pop in. We learned from you. I still picture the Thai surgeon wiping you off after removing the catheter, giving you half a nappy and sending you on your way. And you were continent in a couple of days! Awesome.

Also I'm willing to bet you learned a lot by reading the stories here. I'm sure the examples, stats, and advice helped you make your decision.

At this point I'm here for the camaraderie and humor.

Hi Jeff yes I learnt a lot from this site and it made my decision easier just to set things correct the surgeon gave me 4 bits of toilet paper and sent me on my way looking forward to a 2hr drive on bumpy Thailand roads the half a nappy was down to the fact I could not find anything else but it worked well

Why people leave this forum is likely an individual choice. I will most likely move on when I have a long string of zeros on my PSa, but in the meantime the support is important to me. If it does make you depressed reading the forum than leaving or limiting your time here is the right thing to do. Some of us have different journeys in dealing with PCa and if I had my rathers I would be reading the Wall St. Journal each day. But glad you checked in.

I do agree as guys heal and move past the fact that they are PCa servivers they tend to move away from the HW sight. I have some friends that have done just that. In our concersations about moving one I made the statement that I have learned so very much from HW I feel that being he is a way for me to Pay-it-foward.

Paying it forward is an awesome thing to do. I'm sure there are people who surf by this site, and may never make a single post, but they gain knowledge, strength and resolve in their ability to cope and move forward with whatever treatment protocol they choose. Jeff; It's guys like you that mean more to them(and me) than you'll ever know.

I am humbled by the great group of guys that continue to offer the wisdom of their experiences, guidance, and support to new PCa patients who are totally scared out of their mind. It was not that long ago that I was that scared man.

I'm still scared, but my ability to deal with the issues has been fortified as a direct result of you guys.

I thank God for you all.

I agree completely with kbota's comments above.  I didn't stumble upon this site until after my surgery, but my wife says I've become addicted to it.  I expect that I will move away from it as the surgery fades into a distant, unpleasant, memory, but it has been very helpful to me to be able to read what other men have had to endure, how they've coped, and how they've managed to come to terms with a cancer diagnosis and treatment.  Thanks to all.  I will surely recommend this site to friends and acquaintances who find themselves faced with a cancer diagnosis.  A new guy in a remote area of South Dakota was just brought to my attention this morning.  He'll be facing a lot of challenges, especially after surgery at Mayo, faced with a nine-hour car ride back to Dakota and living a couple of hours from the nearest urologist.  He needs a site like this.
