kidney stones and catheter

I know someone who is prone to kidney stones and is facing PCa surgery. Does anyone have experience with being on a catheter post-surgery and dealing with kidney stones? I did a quick search and didn't find any details.

As you can see by my sig below, I have had an experience with passing a Bladder Stone (not kidney) a few hours after removal of the catheter. Catheter had been in for almost two weeks.
When I asked my Uro and PA about it they said it was possible to form a stone in that short amount of time. The catheter and its balloon can allow the formation of stones ( or just sand ).
I believe they also said that infection or bacteria are involved in stone formation also.

I might not have even noticed the stone except at the time I was catching the urine (doing the turn on - turn off the stream exercise). It was not a small stone either, but perhaps due to dilation of the urethra for two weeks that it was still 'relaxed' enough for painless passing.

That's my story and ah'm stickin' to it.

Most of the grief with kidney stones is caused as they travel through the ureters because the tubes are relatively small and the stones usually irregularly shaped. Once in the bladder they can irritate and cause discomfort. Normally the passage to the outside from the bladder is easier because the tube is larger but maybe the catheter balloon could trap it in there.

Most likely the stones will nit pass through the catheter, but collect at the bottom of the bladder. The catheter inlet is held above the bottom of the bladder by the retaining bulb, and the holes come from each side.

So, if he passes stones into the bladder, they will sit there until the bladder is removed, but should be no problem.

Thanks for your comments. You sound like you speak from personal experience? Meaning, you have experienced stones sitting in the bladder for a few days before being passed? Was it not too bad?
