Palladium seed implant 11/10/09. All systems working fine and regular PSA hovers around 1. Just had a signifigant amount of blood in semen the other night for the first time since procedure and wonder if anyone else has seen something similar? I've scheduled a urologist visit. Thanks

I was advised that this condition would be considered normal for the first few weeks or so. You Uro should most likely confirm this.

If you had your implants a year ago I would think this is not a good thing. I had mine in July of this year. The blood in the semen went away within a couple weeks or so.

Hi Klaats:

I had this issue for the first few weeks but none thereafter.  HOWEVER, I was told by both my urologist and radiation oncologist that this could happen in some cases even within a couple of years of the procedure.  I was also told that the semen could be darker than usual for a long time.

You may or may not need a "visit".  Why don't you call your urologist and/or radiation oncologist ASAP and ask them what they think...?

Hi Klaats,

Sorry to hear about your alarming finding. I don't have direct experience with brachytherapy, but have read the following:

"Blood in the urine – This may occasionally be seen long after the brachytherapy procedure. If it occurs greater than 6 months after the brachytherapy procedure, it should be fully evaluated by a urologist..."

I am 5 months out from finishing my radiation treatments. Have had some pinkish color to ejaculate over the last few months. Recently there has been a lot of blood in it. I go in for another Dr. visit on the 6th. They are supposed to shoot the dye into me and take xrays for the next 2 hrs. I'll try to let you all know how it goes.

I am almost 1 year out from brachytherapy and my semen is tan and if no sex for a while, it will darken more. I went to urologist and he put me on antibiotics and it did not help. Slight discomfort in the prostate sitting otherwise no pain. Does this ever clear up??

I'm 5 months out from brachy this coming Friday. I had zero discoloration in my semen after week 2. Now, I pretty much have zero sperm from what I can tell, all I have now is crystal clear seminal fluid. I wonder if that changes with time, from what I read, most likely not?

After radiation as a primary treatment most men have greatly diminished ejaculate as much of the gland is ablated and it’s function greatly reduced. During the healing from treatment, especially brachytherapy, there is most often a month or so of some blood in the ejaculate that then clears. If it persists there would be some other reason as I understand.

Roy, you must have some kind of inflammation or infection. Maybe a seed that has migrated and causing a problem. Hopefully the uro can help you sort it out.
