Well yesterday Dr Drago Montague and Dr Chris Bede installed tha AUS AMS 800 at Cleveland Clinic's Beachwood Outpatient Clinic ( though I stayed util 630 am this morniing).

So far so good, just got home after a 3.5hr drive.

Wednesday did the preop testing and was worried I could't have surgery due to scar tissue.  Dr Montague looked at monitor which I could see also and thought no problem but used a 14 foley and all looked good .  I asked Dr M about the double cuff because of the level of incontinence.   He stated that the one cuff may do the job and two cuffs, though installed by others, raised the level of risk and other problems.  Since he was the doctor I went with his suggestion.  The nurses at the outpatient says he is operating as much as 3 times a week with install of the AUS and IPP, so hearing that I had no question on single versus double.

Friday, I walked into the surgery room, they got me going and 1hr later I became bionic.  Recovery no problem but overnight stay wasn't the best.  There were only 3 guys in 3 rooms and one guy, I believe, had the IPP while I and the other guy had the sphincter.   The IPP guy went from puking to ring the call button it seemed like every 1/2hr to 1hr.   I am sorre with black and blue scrotum.   I asked they put the pump on the right side since I am left handed.   Staff at out patient were great as was Dr Montague.   I have to do the tug 3x for next 6 wks and schedule activation.  ON Vicodone since Percoset/Oxycotin doesn't work.  So far not a lot of pain.

We got a very good deal on hotel for outpatient - Clarion in Beachwood was $69/night and we stayed 3 nights because of weather concerns and long drive.  The next hotel the Hampton was $104/night. 

Thanks to tall guy and rest for your info and support.  Good luck to those looking to have the AUS installed.  I am looking forward to activation   smhair

Good luck, glad you got that behind you, and now on the recovery side. Hope you heal fast and the device works as advertised.

Glad to hear you had an uneventful implant surgery. I had dual implants AUS/IPP on the 11th and as far as I can see the AUS might have been the worst of it but it is hard to tell which pain is which. Now, in the 11th. day, I am feeling good and you should look forward to feeling well after a week or so, although you seem to be feeling pretty good now.
Have a good recovery and get dry!

Great to hear you are on your way to "dry". I had my Aus done back in August and life is good.
Give progress reports and let any of us AUS vets know if we can help.

Congratulations!!! The next six weeks will go slowly as you can't wait to get the AUS activated. But it will be worth the wait.

Just an update on post-op of Sphincter Implant.

Day 6 and feeling well but still using Vicodan to cut pain as needed.

The pain isn't much but enough that I feel stitches in scrotum and muscle cut in lower abdomen.  They are tender!

In some ways feel better than I am.

 Could push it and go to work but know better after sitting on chair or getting out of bed in morning.

 I am tired even though just woke up.

The swelling in scrotum is going down and can feel the pump.  Doing the tug 3 x per day.

I am allot drier than I have been in 6 months but know swelling hasn't gone down yet.

Because of swelling need to push urinating.

So far so good.  Thanks for good reading guys on the AUS.

Your progress sounds right on track. You should be able to switch to Advil soon. The strong pain killers slowed down my bowels to the point of constipation and I got off them asap.
When I felt like it I started back to my office job half days...liked that afternoon nap.
The relative dryness could also be related to your degree of inactivity and being in a prone position a lot...as well as swelling. But then you know all this. Great to hear your progress....only five weeks until you get to push the pump.

TV, I had the same thing, relative dryness, it went away about day 9 or 10 but on days 13-15 I have had a resurgence of "relative" dryness. If this thing works, boy that will be nice. I will have mine activated at four weeks which is two weeks from now. My swelling is almost gone now on day 15 and I can feel the bump where the new sphincter is especially if I sit on something hard. Even at day 15 I can still have some pain and had one today. Lets get dry!

Congrats on your bionic perfection.. I have had my AUS in working order since Thanksgiving.. I tell you we just should have been born with it.. I like it that much.

Though, I remember being young and then again.... well moving on, we all lose a little function over time!! wink

I would not bother about trying to mess with the pump much until the doc activates it. You will become very aquainted with it in a very short time yeah . It is very easy to work, and you will find what works for you. I have a Neo bladder (Bladder Cancer) and do not have a muscle to force the urine out so I found out what works for me. A little different than the other guys here. But the end result is Iam very happy and very dry!!
