I really don't think he would be able to get SSD for such a short term period that he will use for recovery. It can't hurt to ask though, so look for your closest SS office or look online at the main site.

If you husband was a boots on the ground Vietnam veteran, or served in the brown water Navy, or certain Naval ships or Air Force bases that handled Agent Orange in SE during that time he will probably be eligible for disability thru the VA. If he seems eligible, contact your county Veteran Affairs Service Officer

Not so sure SS will consider Prostate Surgery a disability, but it does not hurt to ask. Note there are 2 different types if Social Security Disability, SSD and
SSDI /SSI. I believe the SSDI/SSI has the $1k salary limitation and is designed for low or no income individuals, the I stands for Income supplementation

There are a lot of writings that Vitamin D levels of at least level 50, "MAY" reduce or prevent certain types of cancer. Before starting on taking D3 supplements have your husband go for a D blood test (25-Hydroxy) , his GP can do it and he will have a start point

Any diet improvement that will result in ,lower weight, lower cholesterol, lower BP will help in his recovery from Surgery, even 5lbs less helps

I am already over 2 years into the Social Security Disability Game. Got turned down the 1st time as expected, that's a given. When through the entire Re-consideration process. After many months, I get a phone call saying that is is basically approved, 3 days later, from the same office in Baltimore, I get my 2nd rejection.

I now have a top notch attorney that does nothing but SS cases, she said there is no normal way to win without an attorney. They have been very aggressive on my case so far, and I am expecting a full settlement including 2 years of back pay, minus the attorney's cut.

For regular PC surgery and recover, no chance of any payment. I have had 8 surgeries, 2 months of radiation that went bad and now a Urostomy surgery, and with all that, it still has been a fight.

Also, even though it would make sense, SS will refuse to talk to your doctors, and when I demanded to be examine by their doctors, they turned down that request too. I am not some bum wanting a free ride, I have paid into the SS system every single year since 1968. It's a terrible system to fight. Don't do it without a lawyer from the start, that is the lesson I have learned.
