I took Selenium supplements for many years as a PCa preventive. Go figure! Diet may not prevent prosate cancer occurence or recurrence, but there's plenty of scientific evidence that diet influences heart health, so I try to eat well and not inhale any second hand bacon smell.

I have a comment about this statement in the report:
"Nor is there any evidence that prostate cancer is caused by smoking, heavy drinking, a sedentary lifestyle, eating lots of fatty food, or any other lifestyle factor"
perhaps men who smoke, drink have a poor diet and take no exercise have died of something else before they get old enough to be diagnosed with PCa.

Also regarding PCa in the family. I'd say that 50/50 odds of getting PCa if your male relatives have had it are actually very high odds.

I was not aware that the "pomegranate theory" was only based on pomegranate juice killing cancer cells in a test tube. I can think of a vast number of liquids that could be put in a test tube that would kill cancer cells and there is no way that I would drink them. Any active ingredient in juice outside the body may clearly not survive intact after reacting with stomach acids etc.

And who is Dr. Lepor?

You are right, quoting an expert who's got an opinion you like isn't real evidence. I googled this expert, and he is the chair of urology department at NYU. I think what he's pointing out is the lack of evidence that things like diet and supplements prevent or treat prostate cancer. I don't think this is a life or death issue, as long as these approaches are not used in place of conventional treatment. These diets are good for you in other ways. Some of the supplements may be harmful in high doses, but are unlikely to be dangerous in low doses.

.. the Selenium bit ran true - at one fundraising meeting , a gentleman, in his 70's told the group he was on a hospital based study on Selenium for 5 years and they halted it because too many men were dying ,.... mind you,he kept calling it a Prostrate....

-that throws out my theory of excessive use of the prostate causes PCa - multiple partners, engineers, motorcycle riders, men called Jeff ( Geoff )...
