As I read it, the research was done on patients undergoing chemotherapy for lung cancer and the big concern was weight loss, or more particularly, loss of muscle mass. Apparently the fish oil helped with this.

So -- no cancer fighting properties observed and nothing to do with PC

For what its worth, I saw Dr. Strum recommend fish oil in a P2P post. He recommended getting an essential fatty acid profile test (available from Mayo Lab), and using the information derived from that test to determine the dose of fish oil.

I think you missed part of the article.

"In addition, the fish oil group had a 60% response rate and a 80.0% clinical benefit rate as compared to the 25% response rate and 41.9% clinical benefit rate for the non-fish oil group.

The Canadian researchers also determined that the fish oil group had a 60.0% one-year survival rate, as compared to the 38.7% one-year survival rate for the non-fish oil group."

If there was a patentable drug that did this it would be all over the press. Fish oil has a lot of Omega-3 fatty acids that are supposed to be really good for you health. The typical American diet has practically none in it.

here is another posting of the Canadian study -:-) from feb 28 - businessweek -an American magazine -:-) fish oil helping cancer patients on chemo -
which would help those with PCa deal with chemotherapy.

If I had a fish that was rusty, I might oil it. Thought fish oil was for that use.

As a kid, I got my tablespoon of Squibbs Cod Liver Oil every morning...YUK!

You gotta be careful with fish oil in regards to biopsies and surgery..It's a major "blood thinner" and it takes two weeks for that effect to diminish..

Wow, Fairwind, I thought I was the only one. From being a toddler till I was 16, I had to have cod liver oil every day. Not sure it did me any good excpet hate cod liver oil
