I have struggled with ED for my entire life, although not so much when I was younger.  I am now 51, and have decided to try the injections.  I was tested at Boston Medical, and they told me that my veins were smaller than normal, so this caused problems.  I was tested with 40 units (.4 cc) of their Formula 9 solution.  I will post exactly what that is later (on a trip).  The 40 units gave me a great erection for about 1 hour.  But also caused the pain that I have read here in other posts.  I did a .15cc test the other night now that I have the prescription and that gave me about 15 minutes of erection. 

I want to try using Viagra with these to be able to use less mixture, with better results.  I plan on trying .20cc of the Formula 9, with 25mg of Viagra.  Don’t want to do too much.

Any advice is welcome.  Viagra at .25 or .50 has worked for me at times in the past, but also fails many times.  Especially when I am with my girlfriend, the Viagra seems to give an initial erection at one point which then goes away before it can be used.  VERY frustrating.

I am new to the forum, so hope I am posting this in the correct place.

Also, I have not been diagnosed with cancer, and have not had any surgeries.  May just have very low testosterone.  Not sure.  But can never find a doctor who would take me serious.

treetop, welcome to the forum. I'll try to say this so I avoid any landmines, ok? :-) It has been the experience of a bunch of guys here that the group you mention doesn't do any more for their patients than what a good Urologist who understands how to treat ED. Only big difference is the costs and the 'stringing' along by the group, to maximize profits. Sorry if others disagree, but that's been my experience of guys who have posted here and elsewhere about them. Just my opinion.... Find a good Urologist who is experienced in treating ED. It may take some calling around, but most of them are capable.

I don't know what Formula 9 is, but it sounds like Caverject (Alprostadil) in some form. I am gonna give you a link to some info about the various injectables/mixes and how they differ.

The use of ED drugs can be a matter of trial and error, no one gets it right the first time, but with a little practice and experimenting the dose levels, most can find that happy medium between duration and firmness. I hope you can find info but here and at franktalk to help.

treetow, I must tell you that James C is exactly right. Not much for me to add. He managed to cover the detail very well. Get to a good Uro that can take you serious and you should be on your way. Check out Franktalk.org that site is much more specific and direct.

There are basicly 3 different injection scripts.
Caverject (which I think is what you were given)
Tri Mix (made by a compound pharmacy)
Bi Mix ( also made by coumpund pharmacy)

Listen to James -- he has great experience here. See a urologist for a treatment less oriented towards profit. When I talked about this with my uro he used terms that you find here in the forum -- not mysterious "formula nine"

Thank you all for great information.  I will do as directed.  Here is the mixture:

per ML:

Papaverine 0.9mg

Phentolamine 0.1mg

Atropine 0.01mg

Prostaglandin 20mcg in bacterial-static

and NaC?? (cant read because it covered by a label) 0.9% water

So probably is similar to trimix with all that.  Anyway, I will check into other doctors at some point.  I will first use what I have since its already paid for.

treetop, the "standard" formula for Trimix most commonly used here is :

30mg. Papaverine
1mg. Phentolamine
either 10mcg or 20mcg of Alprostadil (Protstaglandin)
per 1ml of bacteriostatic (sterile) water.

This costs between $90 and $100 per 5ml. vial, and most guys use in the .05 to .15cc (5 units to 15 units on an insulin syringe scale). This Trimix ratio of drugs seems much stronger in the components that don't normally cause the ache and which usually results in firm erections, without the 'extras' used in the Formula 9.

I recommend you try the plump and prick method detailed in my first post to maximize the ability of your Formula 9, and any later 'normal' Trimix or Bimix use. It does work...

If you don't mind sharing, I'd be interested in what size vial yours is in and the cost of it? You don't have to answer, if you wish not to.

Any MD can check your testosterone levels. Get T3s, T4s and TSH's
Also check out your Thyroid....even if they say it is ok....if you are tired a lot, maybe depressed you may be low, get them to supplement and see if you feel better (thyroix type stuff). Testosterone supplementation is now being actively studied for its effects for men...in improving helath....the triad.....diabetes, heart disease, and thyroid problems. Do not drink over 2 servings/day. Give up smoking!!! Effects your neverous system negatively and your sex life badly.

If the MD won't check.....or cooperate find a new one. He is not for you. We saw at least 7 endochronologists in one yearish and 9 urologists. Only a research clinic had a clue as to my husbands possible penile pain during sex.
try a common med given to men for prostatis that may cause granules to form and pass in a small percentage of men. Oh I haven't learned if the study is released yet.

If you cannot afford it try to get in a study.....at various excellent hospitals known for training. Montefore in the Bronx NY, is recruiting now, but my husband is alreading on it. Problem will be placebo or the med is provided. Call your nearest hospital and ask, but only if it is known for research or its med schools. Try Grants issued at the NIH but you must be thorough and patient to sift through their info to learn who is doing what.

I don't mind.  The prescrip was for 14ml, or 1400 units.

Cost was $200.00 down, and payments totalling another $545.00

The perscrip was for 30 applications of 40 units each.

I want to lower the qty to have more applications, and less pain, thus my trying with viagra.

Last night I tried 20 units, with 25mg viagra.

Result was good erection in 15 min, minimal but some pain, without any stimulation

The erection lasted about 15 min then began to subside.  I added stimulation with full result.

The erection lasted about 30 minutes.  I beleive it would have been longer with continued stimulation.  I stopped stimulation after 30 mins to go to sleep.

I may try 25units, with 25mg viagra next time, but not sure.

Good info.  I am currently unemployed, and live in Orange County, CA.  There is a place that will test for testos and admin if needed, etc. but is expensive.  about $1,000.00 for testing and administering.  So will have to wait for now.  I beleive this may be my problem, but every time I get tested by an md they give me the "you are within acceptable levels" speach.  Prob because they are HMO doctors.  anyway, will have to try that route at some point.

I would love to get into a study, but would have to be free, or low cost.

treetop, thanks for sharing that data. Let's see, that's $53.21 a ml./$5.32 per each .10cc or 10 unit dose for the Formula 9 versus ---say using our cost of $95 per 5ml, then 1ml costs is $19.00/$1.90 per .10cc or 10 unit dose. . Ours contain approx. 30 times the Papaverine, 10 times the Phentolamine, and the same amount Prostaglantin, less the Atropine. I am guessing a refill of yours would cost another $745, plus maybe more office visits, or such?

The Bimix, which is the same , less the Prostaglantin runs in the $55 per 5ml vial range. It usually will take about 1/3 more as the Trimix to be as effective.

Also, I would suggest trying the injection by itself, without the pills. Some research says that they are counter productive, since the pills act to open up blood vessels and allow more flow and the injections act to close off veins to hold the blood in. Makes sense, in an odd sort of way. I do know that most guys doctors here tell them to not mix the two drugs. Some few are told to mix them, so I'd try it without, just to see what you get from it that way.

Great info.  I had just assumed that the warning against mixing Viagra with the injection was to prevent an erection so long it became dangerous.  I never thought that maybe they could be couter productive.  I was just trying to prevent the pain that comes with the injection.

Although they told me at Boston Med that the pain would go away once my body got used to it.  So, I will try without the Viagra.  Maybe I'll just increase my doss to 30 units.  I know that the 40 the doc gave me resulted in a one hour erection.  Probably too much for my girl friend, but who knows.

Anyway,  yes.  i will test that way.  Thank you!!
