worried about low testosterone levels on my husband

    I wondered how much to worry about a total testosterone level of 33, with free level of 1.0 - 52 yr old male with history of 2 heart attacks? - extremely symptomatic - past year having dramatically increasing symptoms. Besides the no-labido, no energy, severe depression, mood swings, hot flashes, high triglicerides, high cholesterol, high blood sugar, severe rheumatoid arthritis, ... I've also noticed cycles of extreme sleepiness alternating with 2-3 days of insomnia. For instance, if an extreme thing happens to my husband causing extreme physical stress, it's not uncommon for him to go into a semi-comatose state for days. The last occurance was a week and half ago. He had callous removed from his bunions to uncover the underlying pressure ulcer. The pain was more than he could bear and upon getting home he went to bed and didn't really wake for 5 days. He was semi-comatose at least 4 days, and then slowly began waking. Had him in er a week after he first fell to sleep and they did so many tests, everything normal but the testosterone... but they aren't treating it yet? Isn't it at critical levels? All the doc did was take him off half his scripts, figuring the sleepiness was from the meds. He wouldn't listen to me that I've watched him do this repeatedly in cycles, getting worse each time. I'm afraid the next time he'll either go into a full coma, or die! - and he also has a visible goiter that hasn't been addressed. And can't get him into an endocrinologist till Tuesday! That seems like so long a time.

dg -- if your husband doesn't have prostate cancer this isn't the right forum for your query.  i will say that i was at castration levels for more than a year and it did have a profound effect on me.  take care and good luck.

Good luck for sure, sounds like both you and your husband are in a difficult situation.

thanks for caring - It is worrisome. I'm just so angry at the primary care doc for not even addressing this. He just set an appt for a MONTH away! Called today to try to get an endocronologist to see him, and she's out of town till Tuesday, so can't even see WHEN he can be seen till then. Just have to be sure nothing stessful happens to him between now and then I guess.

I truly wish you the best. Being that its late Friday, I know that next Tuesday must seem like light years away in your situation. That is a whole lot of issues going on with your husband, wouldn't even know where to start. Let us know what happens. Even if your husband doesn't have prostate cancer, we care.

Is there a REASON your husbands "T" level is so low?? Is he on Hormone Therapy to treat Prostate Cancer?
