I saw this today in the newspaper and you can only imagine the response I might have...This article is about bad behavior from internet posters. It absolutely applies here and elsewhere. Usually it's a few that cause the most trouble and by comparison this site is very tame next to comments sections of political or news sites. Even ESPN.com is disgusting sometimes.

This site is a great place to share information. But the live group I run has never had discord that sometimes shows up here. I hope to see more articles and education in the future for all to be able to use the internet in peace.

I'm probably daydreaming again...

Very good article and thanks for posting it. Myself and others have posted this sentiment more than once when the discussions get a little heated.

We would never say some of the things to someone here if we had to look them in the eye when we said it. By the very nature of things, we are all brothers and sisters here, walking the same road and encountering the same demons. The compassion we must have for one another should keep us from doing it while faceless.

Absolutely, Sonny...
I have a wonderful and dynamic live group that has just the same diversity as we do here. The conversations seldom, if ever, get testy. I think this article says it well. If we were standing next to each other we can see gesture, immediately correct our thoughts after expressing them, and we would not have terse comments without explanation.

The suggestion in the article that when these things happen it feeds the ill-will. That's too limited, it feeds ill-will among those who would not normally be also. I have been guilty of it myself so I am not pointing anybody out. I know a few of the folks here who are less than fans of me that I would normally get along quite well with. The internet is good in so many ways but it has these weaknesses. I hope everybody sees that when posting.

Again this thread had no post or poster in mind. It's just food for thought.

If you can't say something nice - don't say it... Love mom.

I recommend the age ol solution of when needed - type your reply outside the forum.. Wait a while and re-read it... Tone it down a bunch... Repeat the process till you've gotten it out of your system...

Ignoring posts from others works well too.

It takes two to tango... Not stooping down to someone's level makes you the better person...

If all else fails - fire back with extreme prejudice... JUST KIDDING tongue

I did not find the article that enlightening (and, no, I'm not trying to start a fight here).

It didn't tell me anything I didn't know.

Look, we are NOT sitting here person-to-person. We ARE anonymous. So, it's a bit of a different medium.

I've been here a few years and while I have seen some arguments, they rarely get out of hand. We police ourselves very well 95% of the time and the moderators do a great job 100% of that other 5%.

No big deal.

Once again, throw in religion and politics, then you can see the fur fly. I'm pleased that is against the rules.
