how often do folks get psa post surgery?

Hello, I am now 14 months post RP and so far so good, undetectable psa. I am just curous how ofter do some of you get your psa tested from here?

There are no firm rules, but in my case based on excellent surgical results & pathology, my recollection was that I had one at 3-months, one at 6-months, one at 1-year, and annually thereafter.

Depends on a couple of things, most importantly what stage your disease was based on the surgical path report. My husband's final stage was t3a so his PSA was checked every 3 months for the first two years, then every 6 months for years 2 through 4. At year 5, he moves to an annual PSA test.

I believe the "general" rule after surgery is to have PSA checked every 3 months for the first year, then every 6 months for years 2 - 4, then annually.

At 12 months post surgery my PSA testing began an every 6 month schedule.

Everyone is different. For me:

First year - every six months

Second year - every six months

Once a year after that...

Then again, knock on wood (pardon the pun) I've been < .01 on each of the tests.

My uro follows the scheme Sephie mentions, except in cases like mine where PSA is rising again, which kicks back to the every three months "until" scheme.

It depends on your pathology report and your staging. For those of us with high Gleason ans EPE, I was getting my PSA tested every 3 months. After 2 years of undetectable my Urologist moved me to 6 months.

I'm a T3a with high pre-surgery PSA (23) and the alphabet soup of PNI and EPE.
I got them at 6 weeks then 3 months for the first 2 years. Now it is every 6 months. If I stay at zero it will go to once per year at 4 or 5 years.

Based on my good pathology report, I got PSAs at 3 months, 6 months, 1 year and then yearly ever since.

 I had a great pathology report but my URO told me because of my G7 grading he wants to do the PSA every 3 months for the first 2 years and 6 months after that until year 5 then once a year the rest of my life.

Gleason 8 + with a bit of 5 tossed in and T3b final staging.

I am getting tested every 3 months, at 2 years if still at <0.04 I'll go to every 4 months for a year then assuming no changes every 6 months for a couple of years.

My Dr's strategy is hit it early and in order to do that you need to catch it early.

Pre-surgery, 6 weeks, then every 6 months for two years, if all is in the zero range once a year from there on out.

Mine was every three months for the first year. Every six months for the next four years, making it five years post op. Than annually.

I was getting all set to move from 3 months to six months as I got close to the 2 year mark. But then my PSA moved into the "detectable" range. So I've been at 4 months for about a year now. At least my PSA is stable, not going up, even though it is now detectable.
