David Emerson ~ One of my heroes...

Thanks, Tony. I met Dave a couple of years back at one of his disc golf tournaments and I was really awed by his sense of peace. He has come to terms with his situation and, by golly, is determined to fight and continue to enjoy life. He is THE advocate for advanced PC awareness in the Kansas City area and has been featured on many local TV and radio stations to promote the need for early testing. I often refer to his history in advising my friends on PC awareness, now that we are in that wonderful age group ,and follow his blog. I suggest that everyone do the same. David is on top of the latest trials and is a wealth of information. I don't envy his travel schedule but wherever he goes, he and Mary seem to have some great times. I'm glad you had the chance to meet him and spend time with him. This man has class.

I read his blog religiously, and not just for the prostate cancer stuff. He's gotten me interested in disc golf, the Smashing Pumpkins, Three Doors Down, and books by James Patterson!

I'm not sure how often I'll pop up around here but I thought it was time I check in!

Tony - thanks for starting this thread, I am quite humbled by the kind words!

I won't spend time trying to catch anyone up, just go read my blog. It's easier for us both and much more accurate than if I were to try to remember!

I am currently 7+ weeks into the XL-184 trial in Boston. This version of the trial is the lowest dose yet, 25mg. The measurement for success is improved bone scans, not PSA. That is probably hard for some to accept, it is for me at times. However, during my visit last week I didn't even ask for it. Due to the amount of mets, PSA doesn't mean a hill of beans right now. I showed my scans to Dr. Moyad when TC and I were in DC, one of his comments was "How are you standing here?" He was some what joking, but go to my blog and look at the entry from early in September, there is a picture of the August 2nd bone scan.

Pain has increased since August but I manage it by taking 3 Advil every eight hours and 2 Percocet to sleep. I continue to work full time. The trips to Boston every three weeks are quite taxing because I choose to go from Kansas City to Boston, round trip in the same day.

My next blog post (today or tomorrow) will center around my bone scan from last week. This preview is this, it's better, but not great.

I remember when I first read your blog. I was very impressed by the eloquence and dignity you wrote with. Reading your blog when I started to was exactly what I needed at the time. Your work with your foundation was motivating to me. It motivated me to stop complaining about me and help someone. Get off my butt put my pants on and make a difference.

Thanks, buddy! Having friends like you, Merle, Walter, Todd, and like so many others is something I will always cherish.
