Hi All,
I hope that you are all well. I posted a few months ago for the first time about
my dad and this is my second post. Nearly ten weeks after diagnosis things 8/11 are going well. The shock has warn off.
I have two questions:
First dad has gleason 9, 1st opinion said 4 slides, 2nd opinion from Cleveland Clinic (which I trust more then local hospital said 3 cores of 10) only on left positive still gleason 9. Not palpable, diagnosis from PSA rise and needle biopsy, Last four years PSA gone back and forth from 4 to 5.5, enlarged, cancer free right side. One prior biopsy in 10/7 which was clean.
Age 75, diagnosis 3 months ago 74
7/10 PSA - 4.2
4/11 - 6.4 (Took cipro but on rescreen it rose so lead to biopsy)
8/11 - 8.2 (diagnosis above 3 cores out of 10 *5 on each side - left lobe only)
Catsan/bone scan - two opinions clean - diagnose organ confined possible spread to surface but three doctors felt certain no seminal or lymph invasion
Lupron first dose 8/11,
Dad was not a candidate for surgery.
We chose radiation. Two treatments started Tuesday. Machine brokedown yesterday so next treatment won't be until Monday. Doctors said it was okay, not to worry. I've just heard so much about
missing treatments and higher chances of relapse. Given the gleason 9 and the fact that we caught it early I was feeling radiation would help a lot and don't want anything to jeapordize it. But I guess it is out of our hands.
My second question is at about
6 weeks after Lupron shot, PSA has gone down to 1. Doctors were saying at six weeks it probably would go down to 3 or 4 so the fact that it went to 1 is a really good sign so soon. Is this true?
I know dad has good doctors but I guess I just want to hear from someone here that it is okay as you all seem to care so much about
each other. I appreciate your time and wish you well.
Sincerely, daughter

Having that one RT treatment delayed should not cause a concern, it would only be a potential problem if several in a row were missed, or if a person chose to abort the treatments in mid-stream so to speak. He will still get the total number of treatments before it will be considered completed.
Good luck to your father.

radiation. I routinely read your poss and see how much you try to help others. You are very kind and thoughtful and strong. I wish you the best. Sincerely - d
