Paul had surgery in 2005. There was a surgeon on standby for the purpose of doing a graft if he were to lose one or both nerves. At 48 it seemed like something worth attempting at least.
The good news is; he didn't need a graft. On the flip side; his surgeon said he there had been seven done at U of M and at the time, none were successful. Not to say things haven't change and by now. There have to have been some improvements, which likely produced better odds than 6 years ago. I haven't read any recent journal articles. I hope things have changed.
Oh, and our insurance would have paid for the procedure.
