Doc says I'm cancer free!-for now.

I went in for my first 3 month PSA visit this morning and the docs says "Good news, you're cancer free"! PSA number is 0.04 (undetectable) as of 7 days ago when I gave them the blood sample. I'm hoping it's the first of many undetectable results. He also told me that because I'm responding well to low doses of injection drugs the nerves are in pretty good shape and the ED situation should gradually improve-but, of course no guarantees.

Congrats to both of you.

Personally, I don't like to say those words. (cancer free) I probably will still be wary after 10 years. I prefer to say I'm in remission. I guess maybe I'm hedging my bets if I do have a reoccurrence.

Theoretically, there should be 0 PSA. A .03 or .04 could be benign prostate tissue left behind by the surgeon.

Hope you both have many more years of zeros.

Although the doc did say the words "Cancer free" he did add that that was true as of the day the blood was tested and that we'd have to continue watching it every 3 months for the first year and then extend it to every 6 months if the numbers stay low.

Congratulations to both Gone Soft and Nolavette the zero club membership committee thought long and hard (if we can get hard) and decided to accept your membership to the zero club. However instead of buying us all drinks tonight we will defer this ritual to the next GFMPH meeting in Baton Rouge in April at Cajun Jeff's house.
I have my 6 month vampire blood donation next week and hope to keep my membership in good standing!

i say my disease "appears" to be in remission. i'm pretty sure i'll never say i'm cured unless i'm on my death bed .

Congrats in your membership to the Zero Club. I now know how you feel. I should now be the newest member. Just came back from my first PSA after DaVinci. Result: UNDETECTABLE. Life is good.

Gone Soft no ouch involved at all and my wife loves the results. I have been pocked and stuck so many times this year that I am now totally needle tolerant. If you asked me a year ago if I would every inject my penis I would have also said absolutely no way, but PC changes a lot of attitudes about so many things.

Congratulations Steve and Tom (and others) joining the Zero Club!  My husband was told he is Cancer free.  His PSA has been .01 since November, 2010; however, they aren't mentioned the signature.

Time for the 3 month update:

<0.10  I had the blood drawn and the testing done at local lab testing service this time due to the closer location than the hospital's lab. I didn't realize they don't use the ultra-sensitive testing. My previous test results were <0.04. I'll have the next one done at the Hospital's lab so I can get the more sensitive testing results. Best part about today's clinic visit was when the doc once said "You're cancer free". The worst part aside from the nervous waiting was the DRE I wasn't expecting. It was the first one I've had post-op. The ones I had done pre-op were fairly painful-this one was a walk in the park-no pain and over within literally 2 seconds. All-in-all, a great day!

We were surprised about the DRE after surgery as well. The URO told Michael that even though there is no prostate to feel, they still feel for any mass that could be in the area, so prepare for a yearly DRE. Surprise....the finger up the b*** is not gone :-(

Hey guys,

I asked if it was really neccesary. He said he just wanted to check out where the prostate used to be and to be thorough and cover everything. Once he was done he said there was nothing there. The pre-op DREs were painful for me because I had prostatitis in addition to the cancer.

The Uro that did my surgery always did a DRE at each visit. I switched to a different Uro a year ago and he said it was not necessary. :) I was pleased with that news..

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!!!! If it makes you feel any better, GYN's do the same exam to us women once we pass the age of 40. And I am pretty sure I never had a prostate.

Susan is right...and my yearly exam hurts. I am often bed-ridden for a day. Then we have our yearly mammogram.
