Previously, I had received post operative PSA readings of <.13 at my 3 and 6 month psa tests. My local lab did not report below .13 for whatever reason. I went to another lab for my 9 month reading and got the following result.

I was hoping for a lower, lower reporting limit since I paid for an "ultrasensitive" psa test.

Hi lowandslow,

You've got a great result.  With your case history (low pre-surgery PSA, neg DRE, 3+4, negative margins, no SVI or LNI), most doctors would tell you that you have no need for a post-surgery ultra-sensitive PSA test. 

Based on what you wrote here, your latest test has a low-end measurable threshold reporting limit of 0.1 ng/mL, and your result was below the lowest threshold.

There are differences in measurement techniques, so the advice doctors give is to have your results measured consistently at the same lab...at least from now on.

The comment about the reference value of 4 ng/mL is most likely placed there to show that the standard range for "passing" the test is less than or equal to 4 ng/mL.  While this is the "standard range," after RP, your goal is to be undetectable...and you are!

congratulations, can understand the disapointment, but you are still doing great with what we call a "zero". i'm happy for you.

If you paid for an ultra sensitive test, you did not get one or , another way of saying it. A std psa test will give you as much information, and cheaper, Logo

I think you are worrying too much about the PSA number. Less than .10 is considered undetectable or zero and that's what you want. Enjoy the number as far too many HW members would love to have that number and trade with you.
