Before treatment PCa is usually confirmed thanks to biopsy samples being examined under a microscope. So while lumps can often be felt during a DRE a lot of the tumour may be very small bits spread about the gland. So how do they know where it is before they do the RT.
The news story made no mention of how the docs have worked out where the tumour is. You can't stick a microscope inside the body to get inside the gland to locate everything, and as I understood it no scanning technique is yet up to it. Hence normally tjhe whole gland gets RT.
Wouldn't an Ultrasound pinpoint where the tumors are located?
The volume study is the first step in planning your implant. This is a transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) procedure in which cross sectional images of the prostate are taken every 5mm through the prostate.
