This is not part of my PCa journey or related to it, that is the good news. I have been dealing with a nasty cold for about
2 weeks and had issues with hacking, mucus, lack of energy and non-sleep. Finally after all that time decided go see the doc, even though it is just the 'cold' and a freakin virus? So I call his office and his wife handles the patients, she knows I would be feeling really bad otherwise would never bother them with such an appt., got me an immediate appointment and I would have to leave that minute and did so.
So, finally I see my onco-doc about this cold thing, after lying down and getting the stethescope chest listened to, I started hacking and so got up quick to clear out my throat or whatever......and blank happened.....I could not breathe at all and could not force air in via mouth even sucking for air and could not talk. My doc had already walked out of the room to give his wife the scripts for drugs to print out, I grabbed his shoulder once and he did not look back, then I grabbed it again and pulled him around (LOL) and pointing to me mouth wide open so as to give a clue (no air and minutes are maybe accumulating!!!!!) He sees this and gives heimlich maneuver thing, then his wife says get the tongue depressor and opened my air passage. Then I finally got air and started breathing again and then stood there in amazement for a little and then decided I need to walk around the office. So my doc is hungging me after I was breathing and walking around the office with me (what a guy), his wife calls EMS as it is that type of scenario and the newer nurse gal that was working with me was like in disbelief (as I came in with the cold). Anyway, got shipped off by EMS and into the ER at a good local hospital nearby and got checked out in various testings, chest xray even and it was clear looking. Had to stay over night and got put onto Prednisone (steriods) and Amoxiclillan (Penecillan like antiboitic), apparently looks like lung infection and/or bronchitis related. So, now home and on these drugs and not getting much sleep at all it is a side effect of Prednisone which I am being weaned off of with a special packet thing, decendending doseages each day for 6 days total.
Since this happened in my docs office, I got help and care and hospitalized quickly. I may have died possibly if I didn't get that appt., I panicked with the no air scenario and did not know about using a tongue depressor or stick idea, so who knows. I had nobody at home except my dogs and I might have went down and had the wife find me 8 hours later as a DOA (who knows). Anyway when getting older we better take even a stupid cold seriously enough...go figure this all would transpire. Well now I got to try Prednisone and read up on all the possible side effects, they tell you not to go off this drug all at once...my sister was an RN and said she had a patient go off of it quickly and found the guy in the closet and freakin out....how bizzare!
So, while I was in the hospital I replied to MsWorryWarts thread and she and Ohio State had a chance to talk and it was interesting that they knew each other from a different website thing from years ago (small world). I definitively want to become a Gold Member at Yananow.net and currently only a couple months from that goal.....in the beginning I figured it would have been a miracle if I made it to the 10 year mark with my stats and start with another ER in 2002 with total urinary blockage from PCa (then), so 2 trips now in 10 years (lol).
Feeling better but not up to par yet, but assume it is coming soon. Breathing very well and clearly now too.
